How do you get refreshed when you're burned out? How do you make sure you'll have enough energy to do things the next day? What kinds of activities do you do when you need a break?

When I am burned out, it tends to help me when I watched videos/movies that make me laugh. That really helps me to feel that I'm not taking life too seriously.

I make sure I have enough energy for later by exercising lightly/moderately or sitting still and listening to music.

I feel that I need to play video games or read when I really need a break.

Pacman+Mariofan : That's the funny thing; I usually need something to work towards to feel satisfied or energized any given day, such as playing a video game for a set amount of time every day, reading, writing or creating sprites and other such assets. My days only feel gratifying doing those, and I usually never get burnt out doing certain tasks so often. When I take breaks, that is when I feel down and out. When I lie about, I often end up feeling groggy and disillusioned because I feel as if my valuable time was wasted without revitalizing me in any way. Whenever I'm sleeping, I feel bored; I plan certain activities in advance or sometimes get great new ideas in my sleep, so I like to write them as soon as possible, but sometimes can't. Long story short, I'm not one who relaxes through sitting still.

Ultrajeff : That's interesting that you are energized more through doing things! I'm also more energized through doing creative things, but I can't always do that for a long time.

Pacman+Mariofan : As someone that has played over 100 games in 10 days.. only until i got the first trophy in the game... besides a few exceptions.. I don't really get that burned out because i take breaks when i get frustrated or tired.

Then again i don't live a normal lifestyle like most people. I pretty much just stay in my room away from most things in life.

It's mainly for two reasons.. I'm so unhealthy that i can't really physically do exercise or such so i rely on others to do stuff that involves going outside.. Unless i have no choice, then i rely solely on public transport.

I have commonly occuring grand mal seizures.. So i'd rather have them somewhere i can minimize the damage.. as i can't really tell when i'm gonna have them...

I usually talk to people online when i want to chill though.. I enjoy conversing with people a lot. I'm just not very proactive about it most of the time

It has been hard creating an at home schedule to abide to during these trying times!! When I finished up my last shift at work, I almost felt lost since there was no next step for me other than staying put at home for exposure prevention.

After two weeks of figuring out what to do with my time, I started a whole new routine for myself at home.

I've been cooking at home every single day, cheating maybe once every other week by ordering take-out with roommates. Snacking on veggies and pita chips has been a daily snack, and I've been trying my best to curb my cravings with a piece of dark chocolate every now and then instead of reverting to junk food. Staying away from all fatty foods as best as I can!

Taking walks around the block with a mask on has been a good breather for me after staying indoors playing video games or illustrating. Bike riding and running also keeps me at peace! Fresh air really helps when implemented into your daily routine.

Implementing skin care is a good one, feels so nice to wake up and shower then take care of your face! I've also been stretching to one side of a record, every morning. Music gets the day going for me!

sonicmcmuffin : I need to work on taking more breaks when I get frustrated in video games XD I tend to think that stopping will make it harder to beat levels later, but I have been proven wrong before.

I'm sorry to hear about those seizures. It's good that you seek to minimize the damage that they can cause.

zecato : It took me a while to figure out what to do with my time being off work as well. I've been cooking a little more too! What do you do for your illustrating?

Pacman+Mariofan : Trust me it works a lot.. Taking small breaks and then going back to things just refreshes your brain.. and sometimes for me at least seemingly improves my play.

When I get tired, I fall asleep, quite simple. Then when I wake up I'm not tired, in fact quite awake actually. It's very helpful for my long closing shifts at work.

For excercise though, I just walk places, you can burn a lot of calories by just walking, and I do a lot of it.

cid789 : Laughing at funny videos helps me so much! It almost always helps me not think too hard about what I was stressed/frustrated about.

sonicmcmuffin : Nice! I'll be working on that, especially if I was already trying something for an hour. If I couldn't be successful at something after trying for an hour, a break would make sense for me at that point.

Boured : Unfortunately, I don't get tired at night very easily unless I had been doing a lot of exercise before that. But similar to you, once I get up in the morning, I'm awake somewhat quickly most of the time.

Honestly Burn out is such a hard rut to get out of, you're basically in a status of wanting to keep as far away from something even though you really enjoy it too. You just gotta keep yourself from trying to do something over and over to the point where it feels tedious or just take breaks. Even if it's a long one, it's always better then feeling burned out over something.

I've had this same problem with art because I was doing so much of it at one point to the point it felt really hard to do anything for myself. It took almost a few months just to get myself going again. You never want to force yourself into anything, just let it take it's course.

Most of all try to do other things! Obviously if you're doing the same thing it tends to feel monotonous. Balancing it with other things that you can do really does help subside the feeling.

Slyshiyoshi : You bring up many good points! Yeah when something previously enjoyable is not fun anymore, that's a good indicator that you should take a break.

I think your point about not forcing yourself into anything best fits with getting creative. I've learned that I can't force myself to write short stories. I love writing, but I have to have a good amount of creative inspiration to be an effective writer who really enjoys the process.

I agree that it's important to try other things. I'm thankful that I have several hobbies because when one hobby gets old for me, I can pour my energy into something different!

Pacman+Mariofan : I've experienced Burn out a lot in my life so I already know what it feels like! It really does suck when you can't get enjoyment out of something you love.

Forcing yourself really can apply to anything imo, even outside of creativity. It is def a pretty big road block of creativity though.

I've started to enjoy going for walks over the years and I tend to do that every time I feel clammed up in my room every so often. albeit I don't run marathons or anything obviously, I'm pretty overweight. It's more like a small stroll down my general area or even a few miles to and back from home. Always nice to have that option, especially now since it's much less worrying about the virus.
