It's a tough question for me, as I believe if we didn't have so much international trade, we would be forced to manufacture more domestically.
However, at this point, I don't believe any amount of trade control is going to assist us, as our corporations, which control our largest labor force, aren't ready to go back to making products in America.
What I believe needs to be focused on, is stopping corporations from moving their production overseas, and we need more oversight at actual facilities, as Amazon and Wal-Mart are running rampant with legally questionable activities.

pennylessz : Hurt. At this point I think we take in alot more goods from China then we do them. Especially when it comes to things like Iphone parts and that kind of stuff. The only people who are really going to lose on this stuff will be the consumers who struggle now just to buy certain goods.

Tariffs and sanctions on any foreign country do little other than starve civilians and complicate our relations. As much as the west doesn't like working with China, as long as we prefer to be the proprietors of entertainment and ideas, they will be the ones providing the manufacturing and innovation. Working against their people, instead of the unreliable actions of their government, will always be a big mistake and waste of time.

How is this a question? The word tariff just means Tax, and the only way this hurts China, is if us Americans don't buy Chinese goods. But when we do it will cost us more money, to cover the new Tax. Also, American farmers are the ones really feeling the effects of this Trade War, Millions of Tons of Soy Beans have rotted, because China is buying them from other Countries now. And Donnie Douchebag has already wrote 2 checks to Farmers to cover their loses, So Taxpayers are footing the bill twice. Once for paying more for Chinese products, and again from lost revenue that got allocated from other departments to bail out the farmers. For being a "Stable Genius" DD hasn't a clue how the economy really works. This hurts every American, and only helps China because we won't stop buying their products, and are now paying an extra 10%-25% more.

pennylessz : it hurts. America as is sends most of it's business overseas for cheaper taxes lower cost for manufacturing and so on. These "trade wars" end up doing nothing but hurting the regular people who already don't make enough to live on as is.
