I didn't think I would be in the mood to touch the first Xenoverse after reviewing Xenoverse 2 but here we are. I had to go play it for a refresher and it was honestly shocking and eye opening to play it after 500 hours of the second game.

Gameplay 5/10 -
Xenoverse combat is very basic for the most part and has huge flaws that honestly ruin the game but I'm getting ahead of myself. The game has a combo system ran off of 2 buttons and the combos are determined by how much you press the buttons and in what order, for some reason this game has a easy to do combo loop which can ruin the fights with ai. The game has a ki system and stamina system, the ki is used for strike and ki supers as well as ultimate's while stamina is used for teleporting out of combos as well as evasives in the case of being in a bad situation. What ruins all of this is the fact that super saiyan in this game works in a way where your ki is drained however the whole time the transformation is active using skills take's no ki at all meaning you can spam ultimate's endlessly with nothing to worry about most of the time because to break stamina you have to be up close to a person to do so to prevent an ultimate which can be hard to do when they fire ultimate's every second. The kicker is the ai can do this as well so if you pick any race other than saiyan you're at an instant disadvantage because the other race's only get kaioken or potential unlocked if you have a certain dlc pack.

Graphics 6/10 -
The game has decent graphics for the most part nothing looks poorly textured but the game is held back by being developed for last gen consoles at the same time as new gen. Animation wise the game is pretty decent during combat moves but really falters with in game rendered scenes with the character doing the same animation endlessly until you press the next button on dialogue.

Sound 7/10 -
The sound in the game does a good job representing Dragon Ball and having nice sounds for combat, however the game soundtrack is pretty lacking with not much you will remember after finishing the game besides the hub music and character select theme.

Addictive 4/10 -
Due to the game having multiplayer the game can be kind of addictive however it probably won't last that long after finishing all the Parallel Quests.

Story 7/10 -
This was the perfect story for the series when the game came out, many people had grown tired of the same Dragon Ball Z retelling in every video game and then this game came around and told a story about time traveling with the time patrol to save the history after seeing how it was altered.

Depth 8/10 -
Xenoverse offers many skills and z souls to collect however don't think this will be an easy task to have a even a chance to unlock most skills you will need to get a ultimate finish which requires completing the hidden objectives in a parallel quest however even if you do that it's only a chance the ultimate finish will activate giving you a shot at the skill and on top of that the skills and souls have extremely low drop rates on the rng.

Difficulty 7/10 -
This game can be extremely cheap when it comes to difficulty, the ai will many times spam ultimate's and you can just hope to out spam them. If you play as anything other than a saiyan most quests will be insanely hard to beat but don't think saiyan have it easy even when you have the ability to spam ultimate's most of the time you will be outnumbered so you will end up losing anyway.

Overall 6/10 -
The game was very flawed but many loved it still just for being able to make a Dragon Ball character of their own, however the game was quickly surpassed by it's sequel with almost no reason to ever return to the original Xenoverse.
