The Pokemon community is boiling with news as we approach the much awaited release of the first console core games, but the Yu-Gi-Oh! community isn't much calmer either during this month.
First of all, the present. It's been some 2 years since the latest spinoff, VRAINS, started airing. Earlier today premiered the 119th episode of the show, and the rumours state that the show could end at just 120 episodes, meaning next week could be the finale. This would make VRAINS the shortest series in its two decades of history, and of course leads us to think of what can come next.
And the future looks very bright for the fans. Recently, a teaser trailer stated that a new spinoff is on the making, set to debut in 2020. While that's good news, if the aforementioned rumour is right, we could go for at least three full months without any new episodes being aired, which would also be a first for the franchise (if my memory serves me right).
It might not be a big deal to go for months without anything new, but two facts pick up my interest. The first one is Eternity Code, which is a "core" booster pack to be released on January 11th, and since these packs use to include the latest anime cards, without any anime to follow up I wonder what could this pack be hiding.
The second fact is more intriguing. The teaser trailer for the new spinoff didn't showcase anything but a bunch of clips reminiscing of all the previous series and their protagonists. While this could be a simple teaser, seeing how Konami have been mixing people from different spinoffs (Bonds Beyond Time was the first such try, and ARC-V followed soon after) maybe it could be an indicator of once again mixing characters previously seen, though maybe not the protagonists themselves which sounds too beautiful to be true.
Anyway, the hype for the new series will surely be big if we do indeed get a break after VRAINS. Fans will ask for a much more developed series since they technically had more time to work on it than in previous series, and that can be a double-edged sword. And more importantly, now that they've changed the game so much with VRAINS, will we actually see a new summoning method so shortly after Link was introduced or simply a compilation of known methods like ARC-V, and VRAINS to an extent, have showed us?
