Welcome to my review of Hatsune Miku: Project Diva X and yes that is quite a mouthful for a title of a game.

Hatsune Miku: Project Diva X is a rhythm game which has a song list comprised solely of vocaloid tracks and medleys. The aim of the game is to score enough points in a song to first clear the song, these points will then be put towards an overall score for that genre and after you achieve that total score you unlock a crystal. The first time round after doing this you unlock a medley of songs that fits that genre.. Once you've done that for each genre. You can work towards getting the 2nd crystal for each one and rinse repeat.. Also you'll have to deal with questions from the Vocaloid's from time to time. And completing songs gives you random drops to gift to each vocaloid to slowly raise your friendship levels.

Graphics
The graphics in this game are good, Most of the time it's just the vocaloids in the background dancing but each song has it's own stage and there's 30 songs with the game so that's 30 stages just for the songs themselves. For me the graphics were not too distracting when actually playing the game which can actually be a huge issue with rhythm games. Each character also has lots of different costumes that give bonuses and some can be used together to get a further bonus as well. The User Interface is also easy to use and understand which is expected of games these days but for this game it's really clear on what does what and so on.

Sound
if you like vocaloids then you really like the sound of the game, if you don't then first I'm not sure why you'd play the game to begin with. And secondly sound isn't totally necessary to play the game but it does make it a bit harder with there being no rhythm to actually play to. Besides that there are options for what noises the notes make when you hit them or if you want you can make them silent. For me this is one of the most important categories when it comes to rhythm games and luckily for me I pretty much enjoy all genres of music. However I will state that even though the game does have 30 songs to fully complete the game you're looking at least playing each song 7 times on average. Even more if you play on the lower difficulties. Which can lead to irritation and temporary lack of sanity.

Addictiveness
For me this game was mildly addictive, at one point I was even working towards the platinum until a rather evil trophy appeared. I definitely think this game has it's charm and the nature of the game does mean it's easy to pick up and play. It can however get repetitive very quickly if you play the game in large periods. Also the levels of difficulty are a nice challenge with hard and extreme giving a challenge to those familiar with rhythm games indeed. The game also has difficulty mods to make the game harder and easier as well such as making the song faster.

Story
The story is that you and your vocaloid buddies have to perform songs to get volts for crystals. After you gather 7 crystals for each genre (Classic, Cool, Cute, Elegant/Beauty and Quirky/Crazy) you beat the game. There are also missions as well which require you to do different things such as play certain songs, play songs with certain difficulty mods on. Or playing songs to reach a target score. These quests are usually given out by the vocaloids. Also they will randomly ask you questions to which if you get correctly boosts your friendship with the one who asked the question.

Depth
The game has quite a bit of depth and will take a while to beat the base part of the game. If you decide to do the challenges as well the game can take easily over 50 hours. Heck I think I've played the game roughly 70 hours on and off and I've reached the max level with one of the vocaloids and there's 6 of them. If you're going for the platinum it's truly a time commitment but also a skill one too as some challenges are very difficult indeed. This game does have a bit of depth in my honest opinion but I can also see players getting burnt out or bored of the game also.

Difficulty
This is a hard thing to judge for this game because there's no stopping you playing the game on easy, yes it will take longer and yes you will at least have to get to playing normal comfortably to do most missions. But then playing on hard and definitely extreme can be very frantic and hard indeed. It's a game that has the ability to be fun and challenging for all level of skill. I personally played the game on hard and very rarely on extreme. A couple of the hardest missions expect you to play on extreme to a decent level. With one mission basically putting you on the hardest song on extreme.. Which is a very hard time indeed.

Final Thoughts
I really enjoyed playing this game. It was a decent challenge and if it wasn't for my lack of patience to do the mission stated above I'd probably have platinumed this game, even if giving the gifts to the vocaloids is the biggest time sink ever (Also each Vocaloid has specific gifts they like and dislike with the gifts you get from beating songs being random) If you like rhythm games then yes I believe you will like this, that is if the vocaloid music isn't off putting to you. This is also one of the few games I've got my sisters to play so it definitely has some appeal to it.

So if your interested I'd suggest getting it.
