First I played Skyrim on PC. Then I played it on PS4. Now I'm playing it on the Switch. Should you get this on the Switch? Yes and No. If you love Skyrim anyway and want to play it all over again then sure. But at the same time you should also know that there's only three differences between the Switch version and every other one.

Here are the 3 ways in which the Switch version is better. Also last I checked, these 3 ways are the only ways in which this version is better, so if these 3 don't outweigh the price, then maybe it's not for you.

1. Motion Controls.

Have you ever wanted to play a video game and look like an idiot at the same time? Well now you can. Well, granted that option was always available with VR and the Move, but now it's even easier to look like an idiot, which isn't half bad if I do say so myself. Let's say you're playing Skyrim on your TV and you see an enemy. Gone are the days where you have to button mash your way to victory. Now all you have to do is wave your joy cons. You can wave the joy cons all you want to hack and slash your enemies or to block.

You can even use the motion controls for when you're using the bow and arrow to make it actually look and feel like you're really using them. Yeah sometimes it looks weird and silly but it's a cool feature.

2. AMIIBO

Yes now you can gain valuable loot by paying for a chest that appears in the game. Its like some sort of a loot... Box? If you use a Zelda amiibo, you can get all sorts of cool Zelda gear to wear and use throughout Skyrim. If you use other compatible amiibos, you get, well, other stuff. It does make the game a bit more fun and in a way it seems like Nintendo's version of mods. But of course, if you don't already have compatible amiibos, then you either cant use them, you're going to have to borrow them, or spend a ton of money on them.

3. IT'S PORTABLE

For years if you wanted to play Skyrim you had to be stuck in front of your computer screen. Then we evolved and you can play off your console from a couch or even a bed (toilet even?). Now you can play Skyrim when you're on the bus or train, at school, or even in the car (toilet definitely).

This is probably the biggest reason to get Skyrim on the Switch. Because even though you're probably playing the game all over again, now you're doing it on the go, even when you're going.

When you couple those 3 aspects, it's a decent improvement over a regular Skyrim experience, the only problem is that there aren't any mods. The PC version of the game has literally thousands of mods and many of them are world class. The console version has like 20 or so that are pretty good. With the switch you're stuck with what you get.

Other than that, let's do a quick run down of what the game itself is like. In the words of some YouTuber I watched "Skyrim is a game about throwing goats off of cliffs by yelling at them" or something along those lines.

GRAPHICS: The graphics are great, even on the switch and even in handheld mode. Beautiful environments and designs. The only issue is some of the animations, which can be silly at times.

SOUND: Very good voice acting and some pretty cool and realistic sounds. *Insert dragon noise here*

ADDICTIVENESS: "Skyrim is a game about throwing goats off of cliffs by yelling at them" What more has to be said?

STORY: Stop a dragon from eating you. Stop a dragon from eating the people trying to kill you. Get a shiny sword. Save the world. Maybe not in that order.

DEPTH: Have you ever been to Skyrim? Good because you'd be dead by now. But also it would take you years to explore.

DIFFICULTY: Just get a stronger sword and you'll be fine.

OVERALL: 9.2/10 Will throw goat off cliff again.

I'm not trying to start beef or anything, and I don't mean this as an insult, but this isn't exactly your best work. I've seen you write much better reviews than this, with a lot more detail about the game and examples to support your points. I know you're a good writer, I've seen it before, and you were just telling me the other day how you get paid to write for a paper. To me it just seems like this review was really rushed, and not a lot of time or effort was put into it. Again, not trying to start anything. Just some constructive criticism. I feel like this could have been better.

The first three points carried this review. When you got to the pretty normal parts, graphics, sound, etc... I feel your review fell flat and it seemed rushed. I’ve read some of your other reviews, and you tend to expand more on those sections, to paint a better picture of what you like and dislike about the game. I was even looking st one of your reviews about need for speed and thought you did a great job expanding on those subjects.



How difficult is it to get that new sword? Why can’t I do the whole game with the basic sword? Those are the kind of questions I would’ve liked to see answered in the difficulty section, as an example. But to each his own.

Edit - Saw your reply to tgags, understand why that section of the review is so short. Don’t understand why it’s your fourth time reviewing the same game, despite the system differences.

dark mode : Gotcha. I wasn't referring to word count. Quality over quantity. I just felt like I didn't get really any info at all about the game itself from your review. If you were focusing on what makes the Switch version different, then that makes sense. I haven't seen your other Skyrim reviews, so to me (and other readers that may not have read them) it just seems like you don't talk about gameplay much at all, and I don't really leave with a greater understanding of the game than when I came in, other than the info that is specific to the Switch.

You took a very unusual approach to your review this time, but I think it worked out pretty well considering you've reviewed this same game multiple times. Outside of the fact that there are other ways to play Skyrim on the go, you summed up the reasons Switch Skyrim is cool very well. I actually didn't even know about the motion control part, funnily enough, so I guess that's another point in Switch Skyrim's favor?
