Tour de Vizzed Updates

New Banner: Gray for Veterans
As of last Winter, there's a new banner competition for veteran users. Any user who has been registered for more than 7 years qualifies for this competition. It functions very similar to the White Banner. Additionally, a user can only win the Gray Banner competition once.

Biannual: Every 6 Months
The Tour de Vizzed went biannual last winter. That means it'll only happen 2 times a year instead of 4 times a year like it previously was. The TdV will happen every January and July. Adjustments to this may be made in the future but we'll be testing this out for at least a year to see how it goes.



Here's some brief TdV info:

Each day there will be 4 Jerseys you can compete for:
Yellow Jersey: Most words in a day
Blue Jersey: Most posts in a day
Red Jersey: Most CP in a day
Green Jersey: Most CP actions in a day

If you get 1st place in a Jersey for a day, you get to "wear" that Jersey the following day. To "wear" it means that the background of your username will have a unique background graphic. Only the top 5 places of each Jersey gets points, 1st gets 5 and 5th gets 1. Whoever has the most points for any Jersey at the end of the competition gets to wear that Jersey for the entire next month. If you have more than 1 jersey, your jersey receives stripes for each jersey color you own.

Along with the Jerseys are Banners that change your username color. They basically represent who has the most points total:
Rainbow Banner: Whoever has the most points so far in the competition
White Banner: New member who has the most points so far in the competition (anyone who has signed up in the past 3 months)
Gray Banner: Veteran member who has the most points so far in the competition (anyone who signed up more than 7 years ago)

Tour de Vizzed Rules:

You'll be DQ'd if:
-More than 25% of your daily posts are made in one of the following forums: Crazy House, Vizzed Market, Polls and Questions, Video Game Craziness, Newbie Forum (unless posts are made in your own thread then it's 50%)
-You copy content from other websites or other posts
-You use the "tabbing" technique to make a bunch of posts in a short amount of time
-You're caught cheating or unfairly earning Contribution Points
-More than 25% of your daily posts are made in the same thread (your own thread and staff threads are an exception)
-If 50% or more of your daily words are posted in the final hour of the day
-Staff members are not allowed to feature their own reviews during the Tour de Vizzed

Additionally:
If you get DQ'd just once from a Jersey, you can no longer get points for that Jersey for the rest of the month. We will be very strict from now on with the Tour de Vizzed. Only CP actions which you earned CP off of count toward the Green Jersey.

If you get DQ'd from too many Jerseys in too many TdV competitions, you'll be DQ'd from the TdV forever. Also, if you get DQ'd from a single Jersey in too many competitions, you'll be DQ'd from that specific Jersey forever.

Also, if 50% or more of your daily words are posted in the final hour of the day, you'll be DQ'd from the Yellow Jersey. Too many users have waited until the end of the day to submit a bunch of reviews to the site and that's unfair to users competing.

Moving Ebay Listings for the time being does not count toward any of the Jerseys. The price guide feature hasn't been retrieving ebay listings in nearly 2 years because of ebay updating their scripts and me not finding the time to update my own scripts to reflect that so what I've been doing instead is, every few months, I buy a price guide from PriceCharting.com and batch add the data to the games. There's no reason to allow it to count since it's not beneficial to the site at all since all of those ebay listings are very outdated and those prices no longer reflect what's current.



Additional Tour de Vizzed Info:

Some CP actions only count as 1 per day. In other words, any action in the below list can only increase your Green Jersey points by 1:
Forum Navigation, Review Rated, User Referral Posted, Video Rated, Post Spell Checked, Visiting Vizzed, Screenshot Rated, Post, Game Commenting, Thread, Thread Reply, Chat Room Minute, Staff Forum Post, Staff Forum Thread and Screenshot Details Added.

These CP actions do not count toward the Green Jersey: Game Content.

Each day there will be a specific CP action which will be worth doubled the points which benefits the Red Jersey competition. Below is a list of which actions are worth doubled on which days this month:

Let the games begin!

Well, now since the activity has once again return to Vizzed, we can see a whole lot of competition finally happen with TdV, and hope we don't see someone scoring a Blue Jersey with only 4 posts.

As for The IB competing this month, personally, I may try and capture my 3rd TdV win, but to be honest, I more in likely will fail, even if I try to.

I'm really happy that there's a lot more activity now because it was really hard to do anything when the site was getting close to death. (I myself was pretty much off the grid for more than a year.)

I'm going to compete this time, what I want most of all is the blue jersey and I was hoping that the Gray jersey was for veterans in general, I had no idea it was 7 years.

It's been a while fellas, but I think I'll compete this TdV. I have no idea how long that will last, I doubt I'll make it to the end of the month, but I'll try. Good luck everyone!

Cause I think I could actually get it. My only competition would be David and I imagine he's going to be pretty busy.... hopefully.

And if not... then we can fight over it until it rips in half and we both get really terrible looking usernames.

I was expecting to get a few Reds this TdV so I could be the user with most Reds won in all history, but with my limited free time forcing me to drop one of my staff roles things have gotten a bit more difficult, and even more with the rise in activity.

I'm happy to see good numbers in the daily results again, despite the fact that we still have some 11 hours to go for the day. I hope we can maintain those numbers all month long and make this competition amazing again (already enough Trump ripoffs around).

Correction, I might aim more towards my strong-point which happens to be the Yellow Jersey, especially that I have two reviews planned, one game guide planned, as well as a Nintendo Direct Article (since Nintendo will more in likely air a Nintendo Direct this month) I'll be posting all in this month, plus me being a big word count poster.

On top of my strong jersey (Yellow), I might get some points in red & green because of my staff role, but other than that, that's mostly it. Like I said, I may attempt to win my 3rd TdV, but more in likely, that might not happen, I'll end up getting a few jerseys this month though, but that's mostly it.

I'm going to aim for the win, not only for the prizes at the end, but also to prove a point. I recently made a thread about the staff CP multiplier and how it negatively affects the TdV and how it can turn away both new and old users. I personally went through a lot of unfair disadvantages in Winter 2017, and I believe that turning off the CP multiplier or at least reducing it for the TdV would greatly help in getting people to participate. Hopefully the end results reflect what I am trying to convey, but with this new job I recently got my hours are limited. On the contrary, I started online schooling, so I could multitask that and Vizzed. Good luck to all participants in the competition.

Can we just leave all of the elimination/hangman/abc threads open during the TDV?

I never really understood why they were closed, everyone can post in them, and there just aren’t that many threads currently open.

Those are some of the most active threads, so if you want activity, don’t close them...

Barathemos : That might be too much activity. If one thread had a few members who post and then wait for the other active members to post so they can post again, that would be too much. Even if you limit each user to 1 post a day in each game, you have to think that's a free 15-20 posts a day.

I will not compete lol. I think I know why...not because of no activity. I need to fix that thing first before I can compete like I used too. Good luck to those who are though.

Lexatom : The CP multiplier drives away no one in this competition. CP multipliers know nothing about ranks, I'd still have my current 2x multiplier if I got demoted to Elite, and the only thing I'd lose is my drive to be active for having a quota to fulfill.

We've already gotten rid of the staff-only actions in Red, meaning the only issue would be the higher limit staff have for actions, which is more a Green issue that we've tried to deal with for years. There's no other staff advantage involved in Red, unless you think that we should reduce our regular activity on purpose when we're supposed to be the most active members regarding the RGR and VGR.

CP multipliers are rewards for our efforts and prolonged activity, no matter what rank we currently hold. Having them all disabled would place us all on the same boat, that's true, but if you watch closely, most of the active userbase is at the 1.75x multiplier already so barring me and the other four members above that multiplier you're all on equal grounds. A newbie has no chance, we will all agree, but they belong to a different league on their first TdV as they try to get used to the site and to a high level of activity.

I think Red is as fair for everyone as Yellow and Blue are right now. Like I've already stated, it's just that staff are used to a higher level of activity throughout the whole year, and I don't see why should we penalize that.

It's not penalizing anything if everyone is on the same level. There's no argument about it, getting more CP than someone for the same action just because of your rank is plain unfair. Yes, staff put in a lot more work, but why would it be such an issue to only turn the multiplier off just until the TdV is over? The new goal with Vizzed is to offer a fair and even playing field, and a CP multiplier based on rank won't do any good for anyone for a competition such as this. It won't hurt to just turn it off until TdV is over. CP is nothing more than a number to show how many actions you have done or for bragging rights, no harm in turning off the multiplier just for this month. I remember being a part of the userbase who almost dropped out of TdV for good because of the unfair advantages. I have had many people sympathize with me about this issue.

This is what I've been trying to explain to you in Discord. That sentence is wrong. Take me for instance. When I got my 2x multiplier, I was elite. It didn't go up when I became staff.

If I was demoted I would have the exact same multiplier. So would every staff member.

Lexatom : I clearly stated in my post, like zander has also pointed out, that multipliers have nothing to do with ranks. Multipliers are based in your CP total, plain and simple. You're basing your whole opinion in a misunderstanding. 

Besides, you more than anyone would know that the real disadvantage has nothing to do with Red, and while it's true people have complained about staff advantage in Red, we will all agree that what neutralizes the evident advantage staff have in Green will also have an effect on reducing that advantage in Red.

I think I'm interested in trying for the grey banner, and maybe the blue banner.

I swear I have been getting more CP than usual since becoming moderator. It was especially noticeable after becoming Global Moderator.

Even if ranks DO have nothing to do with CP multipliers, there should still be a system put in place for TdV for people to make the same base amount of CP for certain actions. It is still an unfair advantage nonetheless. I am aware of the many issues that the TdV has had, but right now this is the issue I am focusing on.

Lexatom : Be aware, though, that staff have access to exclusive actions, which is one reason as to why you get more CP. These actions have already been taken out of Red, I can clearly tell you that, so this is out of the equation.

The second reason is the higher daily limit staff have for actions. And like I said, this issue is even more important in the Green jersey rather than Red, because while not all actions count the same for Red they do count the same for Green.

The issue you have with Red is the same one you've had with Green ever since you first participated. Nothing has been done, that's the sad truth, but maybe we should make a thread in the Staff forum to discuss this and any possible solution, because all the previous attempts faced a dead activity that ultimately lead to the "no action taken" course that has lead us here.

Lexatom : It could have been just from actions that are specifically for staff. More than 15% of the CP you got in December was for editing threads.

Which was well above what the average amount was too.

There's been some discussion about how we should do TDV this year, and a lot of us have agreed that we should be much more relaxed about some of the rules than we have been in past competition. Here are some things we're going to be doing differently:

We're going to leave elimination, hangman, and ABC threads threads open

We're going to be more relaxed about the 25% post count rule in Your Forum, Crazy House, Video Game Craziness, Polls and Questions, and Newbie Forum.

However, since we're also going to be using more of our own judgment in enforcing the spirit of the competition instead of going by the book, which has been thrown back at us time and time again and allowed some things to pass that shouldn't have.

With these changes in mind, you can feel a little more relaxed while competing and I'm hoping it'll be a little more fun. We want to be fair and we'd like it if y'all would be, too.

Gotta say, I wasn't expecting ABC and Elimination to be allowed during the competition. I have a feeling that'll make Yellow Jersey kinda weird, but I'm sure the mods'll figure things out. ABC seems pretty harmless though, so that's definitely welcome to be back.

Good gosh though, I wasn't expecting there to be this much competition. It's been a while since we've had a particularly busy TdV.

yoshirulez! : This place has life again, and I'm really not sure why. I don't even know why I'm here again, to be honest. I just felt like I should be. It's nice though, I'm definitely enjoying it. Hopefully it lasts, and doesn't die at the end of the TdV.

I won't be able to participate a lot today due to a meeting at school and work immediately after. I won't get home until around 8 pm or so, so I'll be gone all day pretty much. Hopefully this doesn't hurt me too bad. I have taken a precaution since I knew I wasn't going to be online a lot. Hopefully, this does at least get me some points today...

Lexatom takes the lead in the most active TdV in years! And the first time we've exceeded 400 posts in a single day in a very long time

I qualify for grey? I didn't think I had been here for 7 years, and thought it had been changed to 5 years a few TdVs ago...

I like how I can place in Yellow with just 7 posts made (no threads, no reviews, just regular posts like this one), yet people who make several times more posts fail to place there. Wordy nature at its finest.

Nice to see such high numbers to start off the competition. I really hope they don't die down, of course something like yesterday may not happen again but if the numbers stay decently high we're very much pleased. Doesn't look like I'll be able to get one of my traditional accidental jerseys if things stay like this, but there might always be one or two dead days because competition can feel like an eternity if you participate actively.

The competition will probably slow down today since people basically burned themselves out on the first day. Should still stay active the whole way through though.

I'll keep an eye on Vizzed until 1 AM and check on things here and there. I'm hoping to take the Green Jersey from ZT, only because I need the points if I intend on winning this TdV.

Davideo7 : I know it's a little late, but is there going to be a Tour de Vizzed team competition this time around? I don't know if that's something you still do, but with this much activity I think it could be fun. I know I'm not staff anymore but I'd be willing to run it if no one else wants to. If we start it today we could include the points from yesterday without much of a problem.

Lexatom : It's like one point lol and you'll have to beat tgags too if you want that jersey.

Plus having me get the points won't even affect much since I'm not intending on winning so.

Just to add to the conversation, I'm currently first in green, but there's really not much else I can do other than post. I've read my daily limits for game rating, review rating, screenshot rating, and threads. I can't rate videos, because the overwhelming majority of them don't even play. I've added videos, but that was hours ago and I still haven't gotten the CP for them. I added a few screenshots, and I could add a few more before I reach my limit I suppose, but after that I'm pretty much at my daily limit for actions. Not necessarily trying to argue either way, just sharing my current experience.

That being said, the other three jerseys are just as easily won by non-staff as they are by staff.

I mean, considering the posting glitch where every post counts for an action, posting a lot should let you gain at least some points in green. Not enough for overall, but enough to help you win.

Staff members usually tend to have a higher CP amount due to their staff duties. The higher your CP amount, the more CP you will gain from the same action. This directly interferes with the Red Jersey, which is why I suggest the multipliers are turned off for TdV time.

Lexatom : I see your point, but I don't think it makes that big of a difference. Like Geeo said, one long review or walkthrough is enough to put your right at the top of the red standings for the day. Additionally, any member that has been here for a while will have a higher CP multiplier, not just staff.

The CP system was not designed to be competitive.

If you want to even the playing field then during the TdV there is no multiplier and no limit on actions. Then people can spam actions until they die and it will all be equal.

Until then it will never be "fair".

geeogree : I recommended that a long time ago but got arguments about how that would encourage people to just spam one action instead of doing several.

I still prefer my original idea since having the same limitation on everyone would also make it so there's a limit on how high you can go. Which kinda makes the competition useless when people hit the cap.

I say we should just go back to the original format where red was for longest post and green was most 30+ word posts in an hour, but I'm sure that's probably an unpopular opinion.

I think it’s worth looking at how the red and green jerseys are calculated and what they even are.

People, before the CP was added to the TDV, wanted to move the 30 words up to a range of 45-50, and I support that. The TDV, in my eyes, has always been a board/posting competition, and the CP aspect not only has given advantage to staff, but also advantages those who know their way around the RGR and VGR.

That’s just my opinion.

ZeroTails : well, if everyone had the same limit then it would be more fair. Then it would be about finding different actions to do rather than simply doing 1 action 1000 times. My point is the same though. If a global mod can do 1 action 100 times compared to a trusted members 25 times there is nearly no chance of beating a global at green.

tgags123 : that would be interesting but not likely.

I honestly think the best way to fix this would be to hide the daily results from everyone but global mods. That way no one would know exactly where they stood (except in posts) until the day was over and results went out. That is after equalizing the other things so that everyone is on an even playing field.

geeogree : I know that if everyone had the same limit it would be fair I was just explaining why I preferred the idea of having no limits. The current system of limits is really favored towards staff so I support whatever gets done to make it an equal playing ground.

Day 2 of the competition seems to be going pretty well, surprisingly! I didn't think I would be keeping up this well, nor did I think Lex would slow down a bit. Which is understandable, after all, he did post a LOT yesterday. It would be pretty cool if I managed to get Blue Jersey today.
