So, this movie just came out on Netflix a week or so ago and apparently it has been viewed 45 million times or so (give or take).

I watched this after having it recommended by my sister as a scary movie my wife might be able to handle and she was right. It is the perfect blend of scary without being excessively gory.

The premise of the movie is that there is some sort of thing causing people to commit suicide after they see it. No one understands why it happens but a good portion of the movie is watching the characters try and survive. The other half of the movie is Sandra Bullock with her 2 kids trying to get down a river to safety.

Loved the movie. It had good pacing. Good tension. No stupid jump scares or anything like that.

Give it a chance if you like horror movies at all. It is similar to A Quiet Place but doesn't make the mistake of showing off too much.

Sandra Bullock did what she does best and performed the hell out of that role. She plays a convincing mother with striking intensity. John Malkovich's character was almost great. We plays a good "love to hate him" character, but at times seems like the script was painting him with the cliché brush; for example, when he literally says "there are two types of people in this world, those who are nice, and those who survive", or something to that effect. As if his character type wasn't already obvious enough.

The suspense was kept interesting and varied. Instead of relying on one type of threat the whole time, the scary scenes were constantly in differently locations and by different bad guys.

I consider it pretty easy to suspend my disbelief, but there were a few moments that didn't really fit reasonably in the world which was created. For example, how Sandra Bullock's character somehow navigates the river blindfolded, and the extremely long monologue she
Spoiler:
gives when he daughter is almost misled by the monsters

The theme of family and survival are emotional and intense, but in general, the plot did seem little "textbook". Perhaps
A Quite Place coming out earlier this ear is partly responsible for this feeling, and that would be a shame.

I give it 7/10.

I haven't seen Bird Box yet, but I have heard a lot about it. Mostly positive, though my cousin said the other day that he thought the plot kind of sucked. I'll have to add it to my list of movies to watch, after Black Mirror Bandersnatch.

Something that causes people to commit suicide? Reminds me of the Lavender Town music myth lol.

I watched Bird Box a couple weeks ago and I thought it was pretty good. Although I will say it's very similar to The Happening but I think it's still a lot better than The Happening was.
