So I've had my main phone for almost 2 years and now the battery is terrible. It drains quickly, it does once it reaches 40%, and it takes forever to turn back on.

I was thinking about coughing up the money to upgrade to the newest model but I was also just thinking about replacing the battery.

Will replacing the battery fix all of the problems? Or is it possible that there's a problem with the phone itself that's causing the problems?

Well, based on what I know, mobile phones has an average life span of 2 years.

Because with your phone being 2 years old, I don't think that they still carry the same type of battery for your phone takes, and also, it might be more than the battery, because sometimes, the apps and everything that you have installed could end up draining your battery, that and the apps will no longer support your phone, and you start having drop calls, and all sorts of messes.

Personally, after 2 years, it's best just to go with a new phone, I always upgrade mine every 2 years since 2012, and I just upgraded mine a couple of months ago.

The problem is with both the phone and the battery. The battery simply isn’t as strong as it was when you bought the phone, and the wear on it has made the battery much weaker. Getting a new battery will get you closer to how it was when you first got the phone. However, because your phone is aging, it’s starting to require more energy to run processes, likely as a result of updates you’ve done on your phone that are engineered for newer phones.

I still have an iPhone 4s, with horrible battery life, but I can’t afford an upgrade, and a new battery isn’t worth the money required to get one. If you’re going to try and not upgrade for the time being, make sure to always have a chord. I personally have to change it for 2+ hours during the day to keep the charge above 30%, which is when it shuts off.

If you can, upgrade to a newer phone. The newer phone you get, the more optimized it’ll be, and the longer you should be able to keep it.

So I got a new battery and it literally changed everything. It drains a bit faster when I'm using it but it's perfect.

With my old battery, I would use my phone when I wake up, and then it would be at 60% when I leave and die 10 minutes later if I don't plug it in. On Monday I replaced the battery as I was leaving and it was at 50%. It went 2 hours of music and videos before reaching 30%. Another hour later, it reached 15% and battery saver was turned on. This is something I haven't seen in almost a year because the phone would normally turn off around 40%.

What phone do you have, zanderlex? I curently have a Samsung Note 8, and I have a mophie pack on it (it's a phone case and an extra battery.). Sure, the mophie pack was $100, and I think the phone is $800 or $900 straight up (unless the Note 9 made the 8 cheaper), but I can be running the Uber Driver app for about 12 hours before needing to recharge either of them. it's amazing.

thing1 : I have an LG V20. For weeks I was thinking about upgrading because it would have solved the battery issue and I really want the new phone but it's $720 but then before I did anything too drastic I realized it might have only been a battery problem, not a phone problem and it turns out I was right.

Now I have 1 good battery that can probably last 6-8 hours if it's at 100% and a spare that will probably last 1 hour

It's a difficult question to answer due to the fact that there's a lot of suspicious activity among phone manufacturers, people seem to think that people like Apple have been altering their software to run poorer so people will upgrade to a new model. But it looks like yours is an android, so maybe you won't have too much of an issue.

While your phone battery is working for now, eventually you may consider getting an upgrade just in case you're the busy kind of person who needs a fast phone that doesn't take too much power, which I kind of suspect you are.

yoshirulez! Even though it lasts longer now, for some reason it's still just as hard to turn on once it dies and charging is still an issue.

I'm actually in the process of suggesting a new feature for future phones to a certain manufacture that I believe can really help the usage and drain of phones in the future.

It may have been stated already, but viruses can also reduce the battery life of a phone. My tablet has done everything, and the battery drains faster than I can charge it usually. I'm not sure if it's a virus, but that's likely.

Do you have a lot of apps? Those seem to drain the battery handily.

pennylessz : I had a lot of apps but they were always off.

It seems fine now, the new battery went a few months so far with no problems.
