I like the GTA franchise, not for it's "Kill anyone you want" structure, but because of how big the game is. You could spend nearly half a day traveling throughout San Andreas or Liberty City.
Now I never was going to pick up GTA IV just because I knew that there wasn't much to improve on from San Andreas, so I decided to skip it. Now after hearing all the raves about this game, I decided still not to look at the game and get some cheap bargin bin games for the PS3.
And after playing it, I decided that I was right not to spend my money on this game. And I did the right thing for buying this from a friend for 10 bucks. Basically the plot goes how you play Niko, a veteran from the Bosnian War who comes to America by the persuasion from his brother about how he's rich and wealthy and that Niko learns that his brother was just f***ing with him and he needs Niko to help him pay his bills.
So basically, the first few hours of the game is just being the asspuppet of your brother. And what I love is how it takes so long to actually have fun in the game. Because for the first hour and a half, you'll have to drive around doing annoying errands. And again it will take a long time just to get a pistol in the game.
Basically, the game missions are chase the car, shoot the gang members, and hide from the police. Exciting isn't it? There's always a few minigames in the game like darts, bowling, or pool. But for some reason they're kicked out of the game for some reason. Sure they could interfere with the deathmatches but you can make a separate modes for the minigames. Bowling would be a great mode to have, maybe not so much on darts or pool.
Why can't they just show most of the instructions first in the game? Not mission by mission you learn a new control in the game. Maybe I'm just wrong, maybe it's some sort of mystery I have to uncover step by step.
One of the early missions of the game where you have to save Roman from kidnapping and chase down this guy is a dick of a mission when I first started. Because apparently I can't destroy Roman's car because he's too f***ing oblivious to see that we can steal OTHER cars. And another one is how you have to go into a building and kill some gang members to retrieve your friends drugs, now that was easy. But it gets hard when there's helicopters and police officers swarming at me and it doesn't help that I barely have any health left and my car always gets destroyed by the copters.
And I love how hypocritical the cops are in the game, if a gang member is shooting at me the cops just stand there but if I actually try to help and clear out gangs or leave the SMALLEST dent on their car then they get pissed as hornets at me.
The cellphone factor of the game is just awful because of how your brother ALWAYS wants to go bowling with you especially when you're trying to escape from the cops or try to kill someone.
I can applaud Rockstar for giving that realism factor in that game but last time I checked, I can't enter my safehouse and sleep in there so I can have the cops go away and pretend it never happened.
And take out the inclusion of being able to access planes and tanks for realism sounds alright, however putting a heart in statue is alright. I know it's a easter egg and all but when you take out all the good stuff from the games because the game is supposed to real, I don't think I'd see a easter egg in which I'd see a heart in a f***ing statue.
Auto Aim in the game can be hard to use especially when there's a load of people in which you have to shoot at and after you shoot one, it's always hard to switch to another person.
This part is more of a unlucky thing than a criticism but if I need a taxi to get somewhere, there will never be one where I am. But once I'm in a gosh darn car chase then there will be ALWAYS taxi's preventing me to finish the mission.
It really surprises me this game gets a 10 from many reviewer magazines. But I really have to scream out WHY! It takes out a lot of the great parts of the GTA series and gives you instead a few minigames, a strip club, a cellphone, and multiplayer.
If there's one thing I like about the game, then it's the multiplayer. The multiplayer modes are what really make this game shine, especially that cops and robbers mode in the game.
At the end GTA IV is an overrated game, I might not like it but you guys might. Your opinion on the game?
