Do you buy both pair of Pokemon games or just one of them?
When Game Freak releases a pair of Pokemon game, you only buy only one of them, or both of them?

You all know since the very first Pokemon games released in Japan in 1996, Red and Green, most Pokemon core releases all come in pairs (although they have been single core games here and there, Yellow, Crystal, Emerald, and Platinum).

The question is, do you normally buy just one of the games (and then maybe buy the other game at a different time), or do you go ahead and buy both games?

For me, well, I normally pre-order both of them on day 1, mostly so I can get all the different content that separates both games, such as all the Pokemon on the different games, especially that you need both Pokemon of a certain kind to do anything like trading, or use in battle.

What about you, do you normally buy them both, or just one at a time?

Usually I get one and my brother gets the other, but not so much nowadays. I haven't gotten a Pokemon game in a while. The final answer would be yes though, I like to play through them and identify the various differences between the versions of  the games.  Though they are minor, they make a pretty interesting difference in your playing experience.

Well back when I used to play pokemon I would start with one version and then get rid of the version I had then wind up getting the other version, usually trading games with friends or having a friend that had a version they gave away. So no I've only ever bought one version at a time.

I usually buy one of them, since my cousin (dumbass of drew) usually gets the other version. there was only one time where i got both pair, which was pokemon black 2 and white 2. besides even if sometimes drew and i have the same version (example: we both have pokemon y), i can always use the gts.

I have never bought both games. In fact there's some generations where I have yet to even play the other game at all. I just pick the one that I like most of all and then I stick with that one forever.

For example I still haven't played Omega Ruby or Y.

I usually only buy one, but I'm currently on a quest to complete the Pokedex in gen 3 (I'm almost done, just need to catch the Johto Pokemon in Pokemon Colosseum) so I have both Ruby and Sapphire as well as both Fire Red and Leaf Green. For the most part though, I only buy one of the games.

I usually only buy one. The exception to this would be Heart Gold and Soul Silver, I own both of those. Especially with modern games they are just too expensive for me to buy multiple of them. It's come to a point where I might skip gen 8 on initial release to get a possible third game as those tend to be better (see; Emerald, Platinum, etc).

With the exception of Diamond and Platinum (which, while not exactly the same game, is the only time I've ever bought 2 out of 3 games of a generation), I always buy the version that I think has the cooler looking legend on the front of the cover. These are the games I've bought based on that decision:

- Pokemon Diamond and Platinum
- Pokemon Black
- Pokemon White 2
- Pokemon X
- Pokemon Alpha Sapphire
- Pokemon Sun
- Pokemon Ultra Sun

Black 2 and White are an exception to the rule because I wanted to try the opposite version of the second game. I didn't do this with Sun and Ultra Sun because I knew they were essentially going to be the same game and I really didn't like Lunala's design (and I still don't).

I've been buying the pair of games since X and Y. Before gen 6, I only bought 1 out of the 2 in every pair that came out, and in the case of gens 1-4, I'd also buy the 3rd game in the set.
