I apologize in advance if this kind of thread has already been made in the past. I could not find anything related in the forum so here is the one I am making.

Anyways what I wanted to do with this thread is to just find out what kinds of music all you guys here on this wonderful site listen to. I'm open to finding new music to pleasure my ear membranes with and I'm hoping some of you guys are too!

I'll share a couple albums below with the links to YouTube for you guys and if anyone wants to they can share a couple albums or even just a couple songs below.

Austra - Olympia

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lop5rTEzm9E&index=2&list=PLZqsyBiYZFQ1wj-p52MwrCUl3tJCmQ4bx

^^I'm linking to the second track on the album because it is really good (The whole album is). There should be a playlist there with all the tracks from the respective album. I also want to mention that this is from my home country of Canada Some other really great tracks on this album is "Home", "We Become" and "Reconcile". It's just a really great album all around and I've had the CD playing in my car for around two months now. I recommend all of her music (Two other albums, three in total)

Baroness - Purple

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cpL1KQwLELY

^^I'm a huge metal head for those of you that don't know (I write and publish my own Black Metal). I guess you could say that this is probably more of a rock album than metal (That's what the band says) but none the less it is a fantastic album in it's entirety. The heavy is heavy and the melodies sing. A little more mainstream than Austra but it`s still I guess considered to be `underground` by popular sources. Just like Austra, I recommend all of their music.

U96 - Club Bizarre

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZIa7FAopAtg&list=PLo6SlFiL7Swggx4ECANERBukH-Ght52LG

^^Here is an older one but a gooder one. It is some great mid 90's german dance. The first track really draws you in and the rest of the album is rather quite solid. I really like to listen to this album when I go for walks at night. It adds a nice atmosphere. Again i could not find the full album in one video so the link should direct you to a playlist.

Remember, if you really like some of this music be sure to purchase to support the artists!

If you like these kinds of posts let me know and I can recommend some more music. I listen to a large variety of genres so if anyone would like me to link them to anything specific just let me know! I'm looking forward to any recommendations you guys would like to share with me.

Interesting thread! I wonder why no one replied this far.

I have listened to the Austra album, and it's quite good. I agree with you that "Forgive Me" and "Home" are among the best tracks on this album. Another tune I particularly enjoyed is "Sleep". And the rest of the album doesn't disappoint either, it was well worth my time.

Baroness - Purple: I gave it a go (although metal or rock isn't my cup of tea), but after three (and a half) tracks I decided it was enough. I'm not saying it is bad, because it isn't (probably I will even return to it someday, to finish the rest of the album, when I am in the mood for it), but sometimes I found the sound of the instruments to be too aggressive to my ears. On the other hand the vocals are pretty decent, I really liked that aspect of their music. Another thing I'd like to mention is the album art, it's simply fabulous.
Even though this album isn't really for me, I will definitely recommend it for my friends who are more into this genre.

And lastly U96's Club Bizarre: If Baroness' Purple isn't for me, I don't know what to say about this one. It turns out that I simply can't stand this kind of music ... seriously, I gave a try to quite some of the tracks, but wasn't able to listen to them to the end, not one of them...
Don't get me wrong. I'm not trying to bash their music (or your taste of music for that matter), all that I am saying is, as a listener I am not "qualified" for this kind of music.

Now it's time for my recommendations!

You came with three albums, so I think it is only fair if I come with three too:

Midnite - Rule The Time
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gh6No4Qy6H4&list=PL707421351B9CB0AD

Midnite (or Akae Beka more recently) is a legendary roots reggae band from St. Croix. And the album Rule The Time is among the best of their works (in my humble opinion at least). Also it is a good choice to star with for those who aren't familiar with this band.
The gorgeous "riddims", with their rich instrumentation, create a very organic and lively vibe throughout the album, but the real deal with Midnite is usually the lyrical prowess of Vaughn Benjamin. And this album is no exception, so I recommend you to pay as much attention to the lyrics as you can.

Midnite - Ark A Law
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qNIBc0jc17U&index=1&list=PLCE521FC64A7BDF76

Yes, another release from the extensive catalogue of Midnite (they released more than 50 albums in 20 years). Sorry, but I couldn't decide which one to go with from these two, so I had to include both!
I'm not gonna lie though, it might be a bit hard to get into this one at first, but I can assure you, it definitely worth the effort, as this album is a real musical masterpiece.
The "riddims" here are unique and have a deep, meditative sound (a friend of mine once said it is kinda psychedelic, and while I wouldn't necessarily use that wording, there is probably some truth in it). As far as the lyrics goes, this one is also on a very high level, I think maybe even higher than Rule The Time. Just check out lyrics in "Law Of" for example, and you will see what I'm talking about. Other stand out songs for me are "It Will Be", "Infinite Power" and "World Wide Get".
But the whole album is a beauty in its entirety.

Congo Natty - Jungle Revolution
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mK3E2eSn7pQ&list=PLqwohPJwppVxsxiT3Qx1_hoR1K65UB0C7

I can't say that I'm a junglist, but I like to listen to the genre every now and then. And I especially love this album (actually I really like to play some classic arcade beat 'em ups from the Retro Game Room while listening to this ).
My favourite selections from this record: "UK Allstars", "Revolution" and "Micro Chip (Say No)".
For some reason the track order is mixed up in this playlist. I suggest you to listen to it in the proper order which is the following:
1. Jungle Souljah 2. UK Allstars 3. Revolution 4. Get Ready 5. Jah Warriors 6. Nu Beginingz 7. Jungle Is I And I 8. London Dungeons 9. Rebel 10. Micro Chip (Say No)

That's all for now.
I hope you will like them!

I've never been one for reggae, in fact I have never really listened to much of it. I listened to the Midnite tracks you shared and I actually really enjoyed them. I'll probably end up checking some of their other stuff too. The album by Congo Natty was actually REALLY good too! Like, it was actually awesome.

Thanks for sharing!

Have any of you heard of a band called Ghost. They are a Swedish metal band, and they have like an onstage horror show to go with great music. They just released a new album last Friday, and my wife and I both love it.

I've been listening to more from the big band era. Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, and Duke Ellington produced some great stuff in their heyday. Unfortunately, WW2 put an end to this lively and colorful music. For any lovers of jazz, check out these three musicians, they're forces to be reckoned with.
