So, about a month ago I started having serious pains in my stomach. The pain was so severe that I actually went to the hospital. The first time I went was on a Friday night. I spent the night there and got diagnosed (pretty accurately) with gall stones. I was sent home that night and recommended that I go for an ultrasound early the next week in order to confirm the diagnosis. However, before I could get in for an ultrasound I had 2 more attacks on the following Tuesday night. I was admitted into the hospital early Wednesday morning and scheduled for the next available spot to have my gall bladder removed. I wasn't able to get a spot in until Thursday night but I got my gall bladder out that night. Got out Friday afternoon and spent the next month or so recovering.

Overall it was a pretty crazy experience. Not sure why I didn't post about it earlier but I figured since I'm posting now that this was a good time for it .

I talked to my mom after the surgery and everything was done and she told me she had had the same type of attacks about 10 years ago. She compared the pain to childbirth (in her words) and I felt less bad about having a "tummy-ache" that I needed to go to the hospital for.

This is the first time I've ever needed to go to the hospital or have surgery so it was a pretty crazy experience. It's not something I want to have to relive any time soon but it wasn't nearly as scary as I expected. I actually had quite a bit of fun with it.

I am really sorry to hear about that. The worst thing is to have a stomach ache and to be diagnosed with something of it as well....I'm glad things are going a bit better for you and your stomach. But that is surprising that was your first time going to the hospital for a surgery like that. @.@

I will keep you in my prayers. ^-^

Eniitan : well, I'm doing much better now . The surgery was over a month ago and I've already seen my surgeon since then and I'm allowed to go back to my normal life.

thing1 : The gall bladder stores bile which digests fat. The liver produces it but the gall bladder would store excess and release it when needed. Now instead I just get bile going into my system so sometimes I have too much and sometimes not enough. I need to be a bit careful about how much fat I eat at any one time just to keep things running smoothly. Other than that life doesn't really change much without a gall bladder.

So the gall bladder is a pit stop for the poop to take all the fatty badness from the poop?
Cool.

Glad to know you are doing better. I wasn't sure how much you had recovered from that at the time you said which was a month ago. ^-^

Geeze if the pain was comparable to child birth, then that must have been really painful :s. Glad it's over for you, and that you've recovered since then.

Gall stones... I mean I've heard of kidney stones but you don't exactly get your kidneys removed for that :x

Sanspai : No, usually you just have to pass those. My sister has some weird disease in her kidneys, and she's had kidney stones before. She said it really sucks.

I was wondering where you disappeared off to, I remember you came back and made a few posts and I thought geo was back but then you fell off the face of Vizzed for a month. I sure hope I don't have to go through that surgery or any surgery for that matter, it sounds really painful. I've had stitches and broken ankle before but have yet to be cut open for a surgery.

Yeah, gall stones don't go away on their own very often and you don't pass them.

The surgeon said I had inflammation and scarring on my gall bladder and I had gall stones. Every attack was creating more scarring which resulted in attacks being more likely. I had no other option but to have surgery.

Thankfully it all went well and I've healed up now.

I'm a bit late to this one (not too late tho ) but glad it went well and that you've healed.
I also understand that feeling that hospitals are scary. I have that same feeling, but never had a terribly bad experience at one... not sure if I would say it was fun tho.
