So one of the big reasons why I stopped recording videos in the RGR has to do with the recording bit itself. For whatever reason, the videos saved out through the codec (before I even send them in to Freemake to convert them) cause lag in Windows Explorer and cause one of the COM Surrogate tasks in Task Manager to heavily spike in CPU usage, to the point where it freezes that particular window of Windows Explorer. If left alone for a long enough period, Explorer gets so bad that I have to restart it and force quit COM Surrogate through the task manager.

I do not know what might be causing it, but I do know that this instance of COM Surrogate is responsible for handling image previews when going through Windows Explorer. Just one video makes the CPU usage spike quite a bit; having to go through a folder of several 2 hour recordings makes it difficult to delete old stuff without just deleting the entire folder and never going to what's inside it.

I would suspect it only happens to me because I had this issue on a computer that existed since the XP era, but I tried to record a video a couple months ago on a computer I had built earlier this year and got the same problem. This leaves me to wonder, is it the recording software's output? Is it Windows just not liking video previews in general? Is it the size of the videos due to me recording 2 hours at a time?

All I have to say is that the COM Surrogate is tricky. Sometimes I have 2 instances of it running in the Task Manager, and most times just one instance.

This means I don't have the answer, but just some input (I guess).
