SimCity 2000 12-04-15 11:34 AM |
City building: nicely achieved on the SNES Returning to Vizz, I decided to write a new review, this time from a classic from my childhood: Simcity 2000 for the SNES, because I love these game series And because EA sucks.. A little of story of this game: I got to play this games several years ago, I don't remember exactly when, maybe I was like 12, and it was my introduction to city building games. I must say that even when I went to red almost every city I had fun with it, and even more when I figured out how to start making money. Let's get started: If you have played any of the Simcity games, then you get the same idea as always: build roads, a power station, zone Residential, Industrial and Commercial and connect everything and watch how it grows. And then you have to see what to do with civics, because there's no way people will be happy with crimes or random fires. And yes, they want a diploma, so your city requires a school sometime. This, and more stuff you have to take care of was something that was fun to do, and achieving a thrilling city with high population was a common and difficult achievement to accomplish. Graphics: The graphics used in Simcity 2000 are the same used on the other versions, there's not much difference between them. And I must say I love them: You actually see a detailed and living city on the screen when buildings start growing. I don't have much to say that they are what you would expect from a city building game on the SNES, even knowing they managed to take PC graphics of the time on the SNES, Sound: This is one of the points I feel the game fails. You hear the same 2 songs (maybe there are more, but I'm not sure) after a quiet time with no BGM on the game. It's so much enjoyable to turn down the music and put your own music, it doesn't matter if it isn't about city building. Sound effects are acceptable, even if you build like three schools and hear the same SFX all the time... r when you are demolishing a... Read the rest of this Review |
Harvest Moon 64 02-25-15 02:27 PM |
Maybe the best HM game in the series Harvest Moon is one of my favorite game series of all times. But it was the 64 that made me fall in love with the farming simulation. Way better than the newer simulation games for the pc, or those that you can find on Facebook. Graphics 9 Don't expect something like a Conker's Bad Fur Day graphics for this score. It deserves it because hey are how they should be. The game shows 3D environments with 2D pre-rendered cute sprites for every character, item and animal, and other stuff. They look cute, as they have to be. It was a nice jump from the 16-bits graphics, as they look more detailed and have more animations, even sprites that show you the face of the character when you talk to them. These were the graphics the game needed. But is better to notice the differences between the seasons, when you farm is full of snow and completely white. Sound 9 I must say this: I love the music and sounds of the game. The music is enjoyable, changing every season. When you are new to the game, you should be asking yourself on the last day of the month "how will be the next season's theme". I love listening to my cows, sheep, chickens, horse and dog when they make their respective sounds. Addictiveness 10 Easy as that, I've played many times Harvest Moon 64. I will make you picture this: You get the ending, where you get information about how good you did and in what you needed to do more. You enjoyed so much the game and you say to yourself: "I can do it better this time". That's me, and then I find myself searching for information on how to improve my game. And for the record, this is the kind of game you say "5 minutes more", and then you find yourself 2 hours later asking to you why you didn't do your homework first. Story 8 The game premise is simple, and it is shown on the game's intro, just like in the SNES version. Your grandfather died and his farm hasn't been cared for too much. You decided to take the farm going o... Read the rest of this Review |
Harvest Moon 02-24-15 08:08 AM |
The game that started it all A game not meant for everyone, but one that every one has to try at least once. Long and slow-passed gameplay in the country side. The setup is simple: Your father makes you take the family farm, which is on a deplorable state, so you can see how adult life is. You start building your economy planting some crops and foraging on the mountains to make a profit, then go to buy chickens and cows to make more money. In a very sandbox style, you can spend the in game 3-years time until your parent come back to see what you have done as you like. You can plant crops, take care of them and then ship them for profit. Animals are here too, you get your own dog to look after stray dogs and a horse to ride and make the job easier and faster. Buy livestock to make a profit from eggs and milk. Participate on annual events in town. And marry a girl and have a son! Impress a girl giving her favorite gifts. Obviously, you get tired because of the work, but you can find 10 secret power berries that allows you to gain more stamina and last longer in job. Or go take a bath in the hot spring at the mountain for a recharge. In general, Harvest moon is a relaxing game for who loves it, giving you the opportunity to take care of a farm while learning the ropes. This is the one that started the Harvest Moon series, becoming a must play if you love the newer games. |
