Nightmare Creatures I wanted to play this with my controller, but all it has available for me is Mupen64, which I've read you can't change the controls on. Anyone know a way around this?

Darkest Review
---INTRO---
"This sprawling estate, a Mecca of madness and morbidity. Your work begins"

With the sequel coming up, I have been re-playing Darkest Dungeon. This is a Lovecraftian, turn-based, side scrolling, hub based, roguelike, survival rpg (what a mouthful). It was released 2017-2018 across various consoles and is developed by Red Hook Studios and published by Merge Games. As I am currently playing the steam version this is where I will place my review and let me get this out of the way...I love this game. It's brutal and unforgiving at times which only serve to highlight the moments of success and triumph. It's ambiance draws you in and heaps on you the oppressive atmosphere of the game while pushing you forward through ruined landscapes and deadly battles with horrors that are sometimes incomprehensible, and sometimes all too mundane. It constantly makes you evaluate risk v. reward and occasionally lulls you into a false sense of security only to shatter that security with an ambush and several unfortunately well placed crits. Some say the game is all RNG but that is absolutely not true. Strategy, preparation, prediction, and evaluation of your circumstances are key here. However, RNG is still a factor here as no matter how OP you feel you are, it can always creep up and cause misfortunate. And misfortune must be taken in stride because if you are bold you will lose people, you will have units go mad, you will fail. But that's ok, because loss just means more work and all is not lost. And remember, if a unit dies "More arrive, foolishly seeking fortune and glory in this domain of the damned". So, let's head into the specifics and details found within...the Darkest Dungeon.

Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines

This game sucks....get it? Cause Vampires? Ah, you'll laugh later.
Vampire the political struggle: Bloodlines (yeah, doesn't have the same ring)

Hello again friends! I figured a return to Vizzed wouldn't be complete without a review.
Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines (which I will call VTMB from here on out for simplicity)  is a computer game released in 2004 based on the White Wolf D10 Table top game called simply Vampire the Masquerade.
This is part of a larger table top game called World of Darkness which includes Werewolf the Forsaken, and Mage the Awakening as well. VTMB is classified as an action RPG. While this fits, it has an open(ish) world, as well as several horror elements (and I'm not talking about the politics this time).

VTMB is a game that I have beaten over and over. Tons of depth, far richer story than you would expect for a Vampire game, branching dialogue and tons of player choice. Choice in how you speak with people, and choice in how you handle situations.
I've heard the game compared to Deus Ex with Vampires and Humor. While there are several difference between VTMB and Deus Ex, I do see where they are coming from. It captures that depressing feel, while poking fun and itself at times as well. This game truly has a lot to offer. A word you will likely read me say a lot is immersion. That's because this game is very immersive from the atmosphere, the fleshed out characters, the well chosen music, and the tons of choices you make throughout the game leading up to one of 5 endings who's availability depend on your actions throughout the game.

Set is Las Angeles county, you start play as one of 7 Vampire Clans, each with different power sets, and typically featuring different personalities.
Some are fairly basic to explain, such as the Bruja. Essentially Violent idealist. Revolutionary types. Others, such as the Malkavians (more in the "depth" section) I could write an entire book on.

P.T. (Silent Hills: Playable Teaser)

Silent Hill(s?)
Gouge it out

PT was originally released as a demo by 7780s Studio, a company who, like the game that this was supposed to be a demo for, does not exist in the least. However, completion of this demo revealed what it really was. For the few of you who don't already know, PT stands for Playable Teaser. What was it a Playable Teaser for? Why, none other than a new installment in the Silent Hill series (called "Silent Hills" apparently). A project that will be worked on by game writer Hideo Kojima (most known for Metal Gear Solid), and director Guillermo del Toro ( known for many movies, but most relevant, Pans Labyrinth). Norman Reedus (Walking Dead, and Boondock Saints) will also be making an appearance as well, apparently as the main character. A decision I personally disagree with, as I feel it's better to use original characters that we have no pre-conceived notions about. PT itself is relatively short, though is a worthwhile experience. It's a game that I am sure a large number of you have yet to play, as it is a PS4 exclusive.

Many of you may know this, but I am a huge fan of the Silent Hill series. I consider Silent Hill 2 to be my favorite game of all time. However, I feel that installments made after the disbanding of the original team left a lot to be desired. They simply fell short. When I heard of a possible new Silent Hill, I received the news with a certain reserved optimism however, as the most recent games showed signs of learning from other games mistakes, and moving closer back to the Silent Hill I knew and loved. While Hideo Kojima's presence in this game gave that optimism a blow (not to say he's a bad writer, I just didn't think he was a fit for this particular style of game), after playing PT, that optimism has come back full swing. In fact, I dare say, I'm excited. If this is what we can expect from the new Silent Hill game, let me just pre-order it now. PT was fantastic. Sure, it had a few jump scares, and used a... Bayonetta

Devil May Sue

I recently finished Bayonetta on my roommate's 360, after hearing numerous conflicting opinions on the game. Some have cited it has one of the best games they have ever played, and other have talked like it caused them psychical pain. And not the call a doctor after 4 hours kind either. So, given the huge difference of opinion on the game, I thought it would be worth my time to play it, and see where my feeling fell. As usual, they fall somewhere in the middle of both extremes. Bayonetta is a game developed by Platinum games, and published by Sega. Sega's influence can be clearly seen by the fact that the halos that act as currency are clearly meant to remind you of Sonic's rings. They even make the noise, and one level has you doing Sonic style loops on a motorcycle. While they may have a few things connected to Sonic though, the gameplay style is strongly reminiscent of Devil May Cry. Even down to how the levels are laid out, and how Bayonetta is upgraded. Still, this make sense as Hideki Kamiya directed both of these games (so naturally the header was nothing more than a joke). However, while this does have a lot of similarities to Devil May Cry, it's not a straight clone. It brings a lot of new ideas, and new concepts to this particular style of spectacle fighter. Unfortunately not all of them are improvements. I will say, combat is a blast. It smooth, and the weapons and combos really give the joyous, ridiculous feel that Devil May Cry originally brought us long ago. However, it has some major problems. Really the biggest problem I have with this game in general is flow, or rather lack of it. It's infuriating how this game can't seem to build
a good pace, which is a big problem for a game that skates by (and at one point you get actual skates) on high adrenaline action. The game is riddled with Quick Time Events too, and cinematic's pop up every 2 seconds. Cinematic's that often aren't needed in the least and heavily repeated. A... Read the rest of this Review
Alice: Madness Returns

Alice in Wonderland gets dark. Well, Darker
“Have I gone mad?"
"I'm afraid so, but let me tell you something, the best people usually are.”
-Lewis Carroll, Alice in Wonderland

Madness Begins

See, I even found an original quote for you! None of that cliché "We're all mad here" stuff for you guys. In fact, I've vowed not to have that quote in this review at all, and....wait a minute....oops. Oh well, Alice: Madness Returns is the sequel to the famous American McGee's Alice. A game released 11 years prior to this one. If you haven't played the original game however, don't fear! For one, you aren't required to play it as everything is explained. Regardless, an HD remake of the original is bundled with Madness Returns, so your good.
Let me start by saying that Madness Return is a great game. It has platforming, combat, amazing story, and in depth exploration. All of this is well implemented, and fine tuned. This game does have some weak points, however it's still a game that delivers on every front. The ambiance is fantastic and lends well to the spooky and surreal tone to the game, and even the violin heavy score is endearing and spooky at the same time. It's a game that tactfully manages to blend combat and platforming in a perfect, seamless match. The story line is the big hook for me though. While it seems a bit disjointed at first, it really ties together in a spectacular way. It's a spiraling story as Alice tries to piece together what little sanity she has left, and uncover the potentially dark secrets lurking in the deepest pits of her lost memories. Memories that a certain therapist seems rather intent on her forgetting, as he seems to believe that repression is the best course to mental health. Victorian psychology at it's finest huh? Still, Alice must return to her wonderland, and try to save it, and by extension herself, from the almost demonic force that is seeking to lay waste to everything she believes to be real. This is contrasted by periods... Read the rest of this Review
