The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time
Alright Ocarina of Time, definitely one of those hit or miss games. Naturally being a classic and loved by almost every Zelda fan we're going to expect far more than what we get. I know many of us did this for the 3DS release of Master Quest and I know many did it for this port as well.
Graphics: I suppose I should note that there is also an HD release? Then again you are on a retro gaming site so I doubt graphics really matter to you. As far as comparing this port to the actual games, I did notice a few glitches here and there. Maybe part of the ground would disappear shortly or the screen will flicker, but nothing big as far as I could tell. The game looked almost identical to how I remember it being when I played it on the Gamecube, which was excellent. It really felt like I was replaying the game again
Sound: Mk so this is where things get weird. I dunno if it was a one time thing or the certain game I got, but the sound was high pitched. Everything sounded so high pitched that I thought Link rolling was Navi making noise. Then I realized that there were quite a bit of sound glitches everywhere. There IS a debug version I never tried it, but I would assume that in that version these problems would be fixed. This could have very well just been me and no one else had this problem, but I suppose it is notable.
Addictiveness: Is this really something to even go over? This is Ocarina of Time here what could be one of the greatest RPG's ever made. The dungeons are fantastic, side quests, it's such a fantastic adventure that I think everyone needs to experience. It is by far the best Legend of Zelda game I have ever played and seriously anyone into RPG's must play this you guys won't be disappointed... although maybe find a game that is less buggy (shoot for the debug version maybe)
Story: Anyone not familiar with this story I can summarize it as this, you wake up in a forest with a fairy by your side and you set out on a... Read the rest of this Review

Super Mario World
It's Mario, how can you really go wrong with Mario, however the question of whether this port is worth the vizzed comes into mind. The question comes up because they controls to this game are extremely..whats the word I'm looking for.... clunky? Bah I'll give an example here. In my GBA game You could hold B to sprint and A to jump, this allowed you to perform an advance jump (yeah let's just call it that) in this port You press whatever key you assign then quickly let go of it and press whatever key for jump you've applied. As you can imagine unless you plan on really sitting down to play this it's really hard to get used to. I can't count how many times I have died because of these controls and remapping them only does so much.
I get it's a port using keys and there is only so much you can do to fix that, and it doesn't make the game unplayable on the contrary I've enjoyed playing this aside from dying over and over and OVER. Like I said it just takes practice and I plan on putting that effort to learn the game in, but if any of you don't have plans to do this ignore this game. Part of the learning curve is timing your jumps and it will feel almost like learning how to play the game again. It's actually quite fun, but I warn you all again, if you aren't the kind of person who is willing to spend a chunk of time learning how to play this game don't get it. Spend your Viz on something else. :).

Kingdom Hearts - Chain of Memories 09-02-13 08:51 PM

Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories.
So I am a bit of a Kingdom Hearts fan, but my love for the games themselves vary. Loved Kingdom Hearts 1, thought Kingdom Hearts 2 was mediocre in comparison, I've played a few other titles of the series, but it would seem rather pointless to review each installment of each game since I'm only reviewing one.
Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories was actually one of my first GBA games I got and then later on I bought the ps2 version of Chain of Memories. Out of all the kingdom Hearts games I have played Chain of memories is by far my favorite and there will probably be a lot of disagreements as to why hopefully by the end of this review you'll understand why.
Game play: This would probably be one of what many consider to be the major flaw in this game. Why in the world would a card system be implemented like that? Kingdom Hearts was all about rapidly pressing X as hard as you could in hopes that if you press the button as hard as you can the attack will be stronger. Suddenly you're now reloading your card deck, the combat is slower and more bland, every time you see an enemy it sends you into an arena. At first I was even annoyed by this fighting normal enemies was extremely boring and even though this is my favorite game out of the games I have played I'll stand by that, but looking back I feel like the card system did something really well. I can recall in every boss fight instance it would take multiple tries and deck edits to win the fight. How your cards are set up play a very important role in the game (unless you're Riku) It ads a layer of difficulty and planning to the game that none of the other games achieved. When I played 1, 2, birth by sleep, 365 days, Recoded, I would just rapidly press my attack button and jump around, but in Chain of Memories I had to take time to develop a strategy and plan everything I could out. Game play in that sense is very solid and if you look last the stupid basic battles you'll find that the games combat... Read the rest of this Review
