Legend of the River King GB 10-26-13 12:45 PM |
An RPG Fishing Game? Let me start out by saying how strange it was to come across this game. I mean really, fishing is usually something that is tacked on to the side of a game and not the main focus. However that being said this game is charming and fairly reminiscent of Earth Bound in structure. Graphics: 5 The graphics in this game are pretty lack luster until you really get into the fishing. The animations concerning your hook drifting down into the depths of the water and hooking the fish are actually pretty good. Sound: 8 Everything gets a sound, and the sounds of the water splashing for varies reasons are fairly accurate. Addictiveness: 5 Truthfully this is not a game I find myself coming back to very often. As fun as it is I can't bring myself to play it more than maybe once every ten or so years. Story: 3 Your character leaves home to catch the "River King". That's it. There isn't anything other than that. Depth: 5 The range of fish that can be caught is legitimately well rounded and full. That being said, the rest of the game doesn't have too much to offer. The towns are only there for some tiny side quests involving catching a specific type or size of fish, buying items at a shop, or resting. Difficulty: 9 I know the difficulty score doesn't seem to match the rest of them, but that doesn't mean I'm padding the numbers for a better score. The combat and money management parts of this game are where this comes in. The combat is done in the same fashion as Earth Bound, first-person and turn based. The weapons you have access through the game aren't really that great and you will end up struggling quite a bit at first. And money management is really your biggest enemy. You have to either buy bait or hope to find some during a battle. After buying the bait (or lure) you'll need to buy a better fishing pole, weapon, and rest at an inn. Overall: 5.8 So there you have it. This game is ch... Read the rest of this Review |
Pokemon Snap 09-22-12 11:13 PM |
The BEST non-combat Pokemon game out there. Graphics: 10: I have to give this game a ten because compared to the Pokémon Stadium games that came out on this system its a step above the rest. I love how every Pokémon that is in the game is beautifully rendered and moves the way they should. Sound: 9: The sounds of the Pokémon are well done and accurate to what we've heard while watching the anime and while playing the Pokémon Stadium games. The background noises are wonderfully realistic, but the background music can get a little old. Addictiveness: 10: I find myself coming back to this game time and time again. It really doesn't matter that I have every Pokémon catalogued in every possible way that they can be found. The fact that I "just might" be able to one up my own scores is nice. Story: 4: There really isn't a story. At most your whole reason for doing this is because its a hobby. Depth: 9: This game may only have a few levels that you can ride through but as you get different items more and more Pokémon become available to photograph. Not only do more Pokémon become available, but the opportunity to take unique photos increase. Nothing says cute like 8 Charmanders dancing to your Poke-Flute. Difficulty: 4: The game is somewhat challenging when it comes to getting those perfect pictures, but as a whole if you take your time its a breeze. Even if you miss something all you have to do is go back into the level again. Overall: 7.6: I love this game, and I feel that for the casual gamer or anyone who just wants a change of pace should definitely give this one a try. I do suggest that you try to find a physical copy or download it off of the Wii network though, seeing as every digital version I have ever tried (the one here included) either doesn't let you take pictures, or you have to move at super slow mo so that things work, or even won't let you give what pictures you do get to Prof. Oak. Sorry Vi... Read the rest of this Review |
Super Mario RPG - Legend of the Seven Stars 08-25-12 06:36 PM |
Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars Graphics: 9: At the time of this games creation other games at the time were either lack luster or on any of the SEGA systems. Nintendo really knocked it out of the park with this one. The only problem I had with the graphics is how I could get stuck behind certain objects and never really know the layout due to a lack of camera controls. Sound: 9: Love the music and sound effects, though there are the occasional sound glitches. Addictiveness: 10: This is really a game that I find myself coming back to time after time. I am a huge fan of the RPG genre as a whole and this particular RPG ranks among my top favorites. I never get tired of all the things to do in this game. Story: 9: Its fairly difficult to write a story involving Mario that doesn't turn into some goofy face-rolling adventure. However that is a big part of this games charm. The comedy is well placed and well written. Other than the main characters the character designs are really two dimensional. Depth: 7: As much as I enjoy this game I can't really give it more than a 7. The reason for why your fighting the Smithy Gang is negligible. The only reason there was a problem at all is because the accidentally crashed through the star road. I would have liked a better reason for why everything was going wrong. Difficulty: 4: This game is easy, but not ridiculously easy. With enough grinding any enemy can be beat whether or not you have the right equipment. Even the final boss is a push over with the easily found "Ultimate" items. Overall: 8: Even though it isn't a perfect game, this game should bring entertainment to any RPG fan. |
