Spyro the Dragon

Spyro: The Famous Purple Dragon
{Overview}: In his debut adventure, Spyro, a small, young purple dragon who, along with his dragonfly pal Sparx, bears the weight of rescuing all of his dragon brothers and recovering stolen treasure from Gnasty Gnorc’s goons. He'll have to charge, jump, glide, run, and fly his way to defeat Gnasty Gnorc.{Graphics}: The use of a 3D Panoramic Engine perfectly using the hardware capabilities of PS1, although, the camera does have difficulties following the character around using active mode.{Sound}: The music in the game mostly consists of rock-themed pieces. In fact, you may recognize some of these songs (or pieces of them at least) in theme songs such as The Amanda Show. While some songs are not as memorable as others, the soundtrack for Spyro in each level and world fits respectably.(Replay Value}: The replay-ability of this game is very high, in my opinion. Players are able to start a new game (or perhaps even continue their old one) with a goal of accomplishing the perfect 120% in the game by saving all the dragons, collecting all the eggs, and recovering all the stolen treasure.{Story}: The game begins with an interview with a couple of dragons within the Artisan World. When asked by the reporter, a dragon describes Gnasty Gnorc as an ugly, simple minded creature who poses no threat to the Dragon Kingdom. However, he does not know that none other than Gnasty Gnorc is watching the live feed and, enraged, uses a magic spell to turn all dragons in crystal statues and sends in his gnorcs across all five of the Artisan Worlds. One dragon, Spyro, is able to dodge the attack because he is so small. The player’s goal, as Spyro, is to visit all 5 of the Artisan Worlds and rescue all of the other dragons who were trapped in the crystal, collecting gems and eggs along the way.

{Difficulty}: This game’s difficulty depends on whether the player wants to fully complete the game. If the goal is to simply defeat Gnasty Gnorc and save the minimum ... Read the rest of this Review

Pika? A Special Red & Blue Remake Starring Pikachu!
Pokemon Yellow Review : Pika? A Special Red & Blue Remake Starring Pikachu!

{Overview}: This game has its similarities to it's processors; with one big difference: your starter is always Pikachu and your rival's starter is always Eevee. This version is basically the video game version of the original Pokemon cartoon (with Ash, Misty, and Brock). The game has been tweaked a bit to better follow the anime a little better. Unfortunately, Brock and Misty will not be joining you on your journey like in the anime; so the game does not exactly mirror the storyline word per word. This is not much a problem, it could not be done (having two other sprites trail behind you). It would take too much work if the developers payed attention to every little detail. Only really major changes were focused on.

{Graphics}: To a modern gamer the graphics will seem unsatisfactory, however, these graphics are very well up to par with game boy color graphics. They ate also one of the many contributors to nostalgia to now-grown-up Pokemon fans. The little addition of having a little Pikachu sprite trail behind you in this special edition is also well done. As well as pikachu's status feeble much he cares for you, the trainer, and whether he is happy with you or not.

{Sound}: The sounds in the game are classic and you may sometimes catch yourself humming these tunes long after you've turned off the game. These are yet another part of the reason this game is full of nostalgia.

{Replay Value}: Due to there being 151 Pokemon that you can catch or trade and that you only can have six Pokemon in your party, this game gives high replay value due to multiple strategies to use different combinations of Pokemon to beat the game as well as rebattling previous trainers over again.

{Story}: The story in this game is the same as every other Pokemon game - You start out in your hometown (In this case Pallet Town) a... Read the rest of this Review

A Clone Better Than the Original?
As soon as you start a new game if you know the game Breakout, the gameplay of Thunder and Lightning will be very familiar to you. That's right, this game is another game that took its way of play from Breakout, except this game has other features which Breakout did not. Making this clone possibly better than the game it was based around. You start off with your main character (whose name is Mr. Chin according to the manual) who uses his stick to direct his Democ ball to strike various blocks to clear each level. To help the player accomplish this, little flying "carriers" will randomly spawn on the screen and can be hit with a Democ ball, releasing a random power up (including a 1up [extra life] for Mr. Chin). The player should also be alert though, because with every advantage, there is a disadvantage; there are bad characters which make accomplishing each level more difficult, there are some even causing the player to struggle in one level for a very long time (the turtles that turn into blocks in level 3 for instance).

Graphics:

The graphics are very good for this game, and have changing backgrounds that "set the stage" for the level that you are on. Well done for a game on the nes.

Sound:

The sound was very nice and I enjoyed it at first. But repeatedly playing it to compete for the high score competition, I begun to get rather bored of the music and lowered the game volume and played my own music over it .

Replay Value:

This game is very addicting and I come back to it once in a while to try to beat my high score. (And try to get past level 3). Never gets boring for a long time

Story:

Unfortunately, there is no other way to figure out the story without getting a hold of the original nes manual or looking it up somewhere. That being said, the story is rather interesting and makes this the only Breakout clone I know that actually has a well thought out stor... Read the rest of this Review

A Great Beginning to the Paper Mario Series
Paper Mario (64) review

Paper Mario is a perfect beginning for the "Paper Mario" sub series and is definitely  worthy of the Mario franchise. It's graphics are great for 64 graphics and it's sounds are "Mario" (enough said :) ) It's addictiveness is almost dangerously so; I can hardly put down my controller and sometimes forget I don't need to wait for the save block (which I used to use as an excuse XD) The story is the typical "Save Princess Peach from the princess-crazed Koopa King Bowser" but once again Nintendo gives this typical goal more of a story along with it (which makes every Mario game fresh and new for gamers.) The depth of this game is as high as the addictiveness: if you're like me, you won't want to put it down for quite awhile. The difficulty of this game isn't too hard controls wise. The controls are simple and easy to understand and use. The game itself is relatively challenging as to progress further; this game has what which every good game has: challenge. If you are a fan of the Mario series, Paper Mario is a highly recommended! :D
