Tales of Phantasia (english translation)

Tales of Phantasia: A classic
The only version of Tales of Phantasia in America would be the GBA version which some say is sad and I agree. The game franchise was a cut above most franchises during the time. The game has many features that sets it apart from most RPG. From it's battle system to the character design and voices I say it is a great game to play.
The story is nice for an RPG but I wont get into it much to avoid spoilers. The main character Cless and his best friend Charles go hunting in the woods to return to their village being destroyed and loved ones murdered by a group of evil knights. On the way Cless meets Mint and the three find a tomb were Dhaos an evil entity lies the knight release Dhaos from his prison and are killed by the one they freed. Tornix sends Cless and Mint back in time. I'll stop there to avoid any other spoilers.
The battle system is that of a fighting game which was new in the RPG franchise were it was fast-paced battling( which is sure to be a favorite of the fast-paced lovers) still with its RPG elements. This was the beginning of the Tales battle system. Still it was flawed by only being in a 2-D format it is still a great battle system.
The game offers a unique battle system, challenging puzzles, and mini-games so this game offer a lot for its time. All in all it offer the standards of an RPG and is still fun to play.
The graphics would've been better but considering it being a SNES game the graphics are good for its time. The addictiveness is high for RPG players and possibly fighting game players. The game can be a bit difficult at the start with learning how to use the skills correctly and as it progresses, but can be easy for those who are accustom to the skills system.
So to sum it up Tales of Phantasia is a great SNES game classic which will get a lot of fans( and nostalgia lovers).
Dragon Quest 3 (English RC1 Beta)

Dragon Quest III: The off-spring of Ortega
Dragon Quest III is a RPG that is the 3rd game in the series. It is a SNES version of the GBC version of it. I have played the GBC version and compared it to this version. I can say that the SNES version is a bit better that the GBC version. I think of it as a good game to play for Dragon Quest fans.
Graphics: The graphics in this version are better that the GBC version mostly for how they are a bit smoother. The background is great and I like how it has a background in the battle scenes as opposed to a blank white space in the other version. The characters and animation are better and more pleasing to look at. I say the graphics are good for this system.
Sound: I like the sound for how it is smoother in this version than the GBC version. (Even on this site the sound is smooth.) Not to mention that there is some catchy and memorable music in it as well.
Addictiveness: The addictiveness would depend on whether you like turn based or not. If yes than it will be very addictive. If no than you will lose interest quickly at the beginning of the game. So it is addictive to those RPG fans.
Story: Like in most RPG the story is to save the world from an evil threat. But even so it is still good. The story is where you are the son of the hero Ortega and after his death you must carry on his task of stopping the evil that threatens your world. This results in you traveling all over the world.
Depth: This game has certain features that keep it interesting. One is the class system you can also change the class one the character has a Level 20 proficiency in that class (so I've read). Another feature is the Game Towers (at least that's what I call them) there you can select one character from your party to explore a board game to receive a fabulous prize. Keep in mind that there are traps on the board so go with a character with good stats and high luck (you'll need it in the towers). A third is the monster fights where monsters are pit against one another, th... Read the rest of this Review
Final Fantasy V Advance

Final Fantasy V: The Advanced Saga
Final Fantasy V Advance is a turn-based RPG that has interesting features that set it a part from the other Advanced games. I am a personal RPG fan so to me this is a fun game despite it being difficult at times. Besides that it has things to offer that the other Final Fantasy Advanced games don't.
Graphics: The map sprites could have been better but the battle sprites are tolerable to say the least. The background was done better than expected. And the monster are still more detailed than the players party members.
Sound: The sound is good considering on how this site has some trouble with the music of some games. All in all tolerable.
Addictiveness: As I said I'm a RPG fan so this games is quite addictive at times.
Story: The story is the same as any RPG (save the world from evil) but still it is good for it is a little different from most RPG. I won't get too much in it to avoid spoilers, but you are to protect the crystals of Fire, Water, Earth (the Wind crystal was destroyed at the beginning of the game) unfortunately most break but you get their powers.
Depth: This game has a class system similar to Final Fantasy: Dawn of Souls but the difference is that you can change the class one of your characters is from Knight, to BlueMage (a new one) to Beserker, to Monk. That is to name a few. The turn system is where you wait for the Action bar to fill up. I think of this as a way to change up the regular turn system.
Difficulty: The game can be quite difficult if not prepared right. The bosses as you progress also make the game a little bit more difficult.
To sum it up this game is sure to be liked by many RPG fans (like me) it is turn based so for those who prefer fast paced games this is not for you. This game is for those who like/need to have time to think of the next action they will perform. All in all it is a good game for those RPG fans (but keep in mind there is some content not suitable for young RPG fans).
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon - Red Rescue Team
06-01-12 07:52 PM
A new spin on the Pokemon Story
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Red Rescue Team is the only Mystery Dungeon game that ever made it on the GBA series, while the other were put in the DS series. Although I wish Blue Rescue Team made it on the GBA series too so we could play it here. Besides the point this game is a mixture of RPG, strategy, and dungeon crawler (which is still new to me, even though I played the DS versions). The game has many new elements in it as opposed to the other Pokemon game.
Story: I won't get too much into the story for I don't want to give any spoilers, but it is basically you are turned into a Pokemon (which one you turn into depends on how you answer the personality quiz) and you and you're partner Pokemon (you get to choose which one) try to find out how you got turned into a Pokemon. That is all I'm saying for the story.
Turn System: The mystery Dungeon games have a different turn system from other Pokemon games: You go first, next is your partner Pokemon, then allies, finally enemy Pokemon. So the turn system is a definition of think before you act.
Sound: The sound is a lot smoother as opposed to other Pokemon games so the music on this site won't bother you much.
Addictiveness: The game is very addictive and is fun to play for those who like Pokemon, RPG, strategy, or dungeon crawlers.
The game is some what challenging if you are not prepared especially as the game progresses. Here is a little info I got from chats, you can only evolve after you finish the main story which is rather annoying.
Another thing is that in order to recruit members on your team is to defeat them an get them out of the dungeon with out them fainting. Pokemon will only join you if you have the Friend Area (which Wigglytuff sells) they inhabit, so be sure to have money to buy a lot if you want a lot of members on your team.
The dungeons in the game have specific size limits on how many people you can have on your team which is another annoying thing about the game but allow... Read the rest of this Review
Sonic Battle

Sonic Smash Out
Sonic battle is a fighting game where you can play as the Sonic characters during the Emerl saga. The game is basically where you fight up against other characters, unraveling the story of a robot named Emerl. This game has mostly fighting but has some RPG elements, and mini games if you ever need a break from constant battling.
Story: The story is when Dr. Eggman (Sonic's  long time nemesis) resurrects a ancient fighting robot called "Gizoid", unable to listen to his commands Dr. Eggman decides to toss the robot at Emerald Beach, where Sonic the Hedgehog finds it. Later on Sonic decides to name it Emerl for how it is powered by Chaos Emeralds. Emerl then makes friends with Tails, Knuckles, and all of Sonic's other friends (accept Rouge and Shadow). But Shadow feels as though Emerl is a threat and is set on destroying it, while Rouge plans to make Emerl into a thieving robot. After obtaining data from Emerl before he decided to toss it he was able to make copies of Emerl that listen to his commands. He uses them to find and capture though you fight them to protect Emerl (and yourself) that is all I'll say on the story (sorry if there is any spoilers).
Controls: Just a quick bit on controls the arrow keys are to move. The z button is to jump/select an action. The x button is to attack/decline an action. The a button is to guard/heal and charge Ki (tap to guard, hold to heal and charge Ki). The s button is to use your specials (depending if in the air or on the ground). Select is to go to Emerl's menu in story mode.
Emerl: The character Emerl is the entire RPG element in the game. In story mode you can customize Emerl to fit your fighting style, so long as you have the Skill points (needed for emerl to do everything) to do so.
Battle System: The battle system is similar to that of Super Smash Bros. Where you can change the rules of battle (except you can't use items), and choose the arena of your choice. The main difference is that the arenas are ... Read the rest of this Review
