Classic RPG, But Perhaps not for Everyone I remember sitting in Homeroom in Highschool, and trying to ignore the channel 1 news that would play before the bell would ring for first period. I could not, however, ignore some of the adds and commercials that would play in the middle of it. One in particular was for this game. Now, allow me to paint the picture for you: Imagine an orchestra playing, a chandelier in the rafters of a music hall that starts to come to life with fire an light. A woman in a red dress holds her hand out towards it as the creature comes down, power radiating off it. Then, the Golden Sun logo as well as clips from the game appear... Really didn't explain what was going on very well. But I was intrigued, but not enough to buy it myself. I waited until my father (a gamer in his own right) got the game, and after he was finished, I played it. I played and finished it, only after I was done realizing that I hadn't found everything this game had to offer. But now, after losing the game and being unable to play it for years it was nice to sit down and finally be able to play once again. Now, looking at it in a more critical eye, I enjoy this game in so many more ways. However, if the classic RPG style isn't your thing, then I suppose you might have to pass this game up. Graphics: 9 For the day and system in which the game was created for, the graphics are really good. Though expressions are not really shown, you are able to get a feel for what each character is feeling due to thought bubbles and comical motions. The battle graphics is where the game truly shines. After a shift in the screen you are treated to a battle screen that rivals and ever surpasses in some cases some SNES (and even some early generation PS1) games. Each monster has its own details and traits that, while some are re-colors of other monsters, are still unique in each. Sound: 8 The music is pleasant to the ears, and it helps give you a sense of wher... Read the rest of this Review |
Final Fantasy III - Eternal Crystals 03-09-12 11:04 AM |
A Solid Hack and Worth the Time to Play. Okay, I've been a huge fan of Final Fantasy for a long time. It was the first game I ever played when I was little (or at least watched my brother play...I couldn't read but it was fun to watch). One of my favorite games in the series has always been, however, Final Fantasy VI (III in the US). So when I saw this hack and some of the pictures, I was a little put off. "Hey!" I said "Why would you mess with an already great game?! I mean, unless Leo is still alive or you can play as someone else...well..." and after reading the description of the game, I wasn't sure what to think. This game was the start of Square's departure from pure Fantasy and adding in Steam-punk and Sci-Fi elements. The games began to take a turn, and it was a refreshing and interesting change. So, looking a this hack I wasn't exactly sure how I was feeling about it, but I decided to take a quick look. And I was surprised! GRAPHICS 8 I grant Graphics a 8 because I love the graphics of the original FFVI, It was ahead of its time and utilized the Super Nintendo to the it's limit. This in mind, looking at some of the sprite changes causes me to feel a bit put off. Changing Edgar's sprite to Kain's (More of Less) and Cyan's as well (I'm not going to spoil it, you'll see what I mean) just seemed a bit unneeded. In fact, a lot of sprites are changed, some to great effect and then others that don't really make that much sense. But, once you get passed that, you end up looking at it and feeling like it's second nature. Basically, it works, but it doesn't. But I digress, don't let THIS stop you from playing the game, please, keep reading. SOUND 10 I grant the Sound a 10 because it's exactly the same. A few changes but they aren't glaring and they actually work with the feel of the game, so a perfect score for this one! AD... Read the rest of this Review |
