I've been working with a company that makes clear plastic boxes and I've ordered a huge quantity of what I'm calling game box protectors. You put your boxed games in the box protectors and it keeps it safe. I'm currently selling them on amazon as you can see here so they're currently only available to USA users. Maintenance Update Regarding Backups

There's still no word on when the maintenance will be complete, hostgator is taking their time and giving me very little information.

In the previous announcement I mentioned backing up the site 3 times a day. Basically any content submitted to the site before I make a backup will most likely be safe and has a better chance of not being lost. Any content made after a backup has a better chance of being lost once the migration is complete; read the previous announcement for more information as to why this is the case.

Here are the times I'll be making the backups (the times aren't exact):
-11 AM Central Time
-5 PM Central Time
-11 PM Central Time
So if you plan to submit a lot of content to the site, try to do it before a backup.

I should also point out that while these backups take place, the site will become slower and will go down a few times. The backups shouldn't take more than 15-30 minutes each.

Maintenance Update

Site maintenance is still going on (refer to previous announcement) and may still take 24-72 hours, however, I've made all the site features available again but here's the catch, it's possible that you could lose 0-8 hours worth of content that you submit to the site during this time. So if you post or send private messages, it's possible that you may lose 8 hours worth of posts or messages so if you make any big posts during this time, be sure to save the contents of your post to word pad or note pad. You will not lose any game saves and if you take any screenshots and they disappear, they're still available on the server, you'll just have to resubmit them. The site will be slower than normal during this maintenance.

The games will continue to be 0 Viz until the maintenance is complete. I will make another announcement when the maintenance is complete.

So what is this maintenance about? Well hostgator decided that I needed to upgrade my server (I had no choice) so started to migrate the database to a new server a few days ago and they still haven't finished. This has forced me to backup the database every 6-12 hours so that when the transfer is complete, the most recent content on the old database isn't lost (as soon as the transfer is complete, they're taking down the old server).

I apologize for this inconvenience and I'll do my best to make it up to you all in the upcoming week.

The site will be undergoing maintenance for the next 24-48 hours. While the maintenance goes on, all of the RGR games will be 0 Viz, so be sure to take advantage of this and play as many games as you want

(you will not get to "keep" them though)

During this time, the following features will still be available:
-Playing games
-Netplay lobby
-Game saving
-Chat Room
-Logging in and logging out
-Profile Commenting
-Many others

Some of the things that you do after the maintenance begins will be lost after the maintenance ends, which includes profile commenting, game rating, screenshot and video rating, Viz earning, game buying/selling, etc.

During this time, the following features will not be available:
-Registration
-Posting
-Game Commenting
-Submitting Screenshots
-Submitting Videos
-HighScore and Speedruns
-Private Message System

Pokemon Rom Hacking Competition = Earn US $200+

Here's your chance to learn how to hack Pokemon games for the Game Boy Advance (Fire Red, Leaf Green, Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald) and also earn real money in the process! On top of that cash rewards, you can earn tons of CP and Viz as well.

Here's how it works. You create a Rom hack of any of the GBA Pokemon games and when it's all finished, you send it to tRIUNE and he'll add it to the site so that others can play it. From that point, you can earn $200+. Read below for more details.

What is a Pokemon Rom Hack:
It's where you redesign the towns, change locations of Pokemon, change the Pokemon (including stats, name and looks), graphics, title screen, menus, items, music/sounds, write new scripts/dialog, create new events, etc. You can find a list of GBA Pokemon hacks on vizzed here:

Earnings:
Once the competition is over, whoever has the best rated game with at least 3 votes and at least 5,000 plays wins $200 (real money). 2nd place will win $50. If for some reason very few users enter and therefore no one reaches at least 5,000 plays, than only the 2nd place prize will be handed out.

You can also earn money even if you don't place. Between now and February 16th, for each 10,000 views your game gets, you'll earn $20 (a maximum of $100 per a game). To qualify for this, your game must have at least a rating of 7.0 or higher.

The money can be paid in multiple ways. I can send you the money via paypal, buy you an amazon gift card, buy and send you Microsoft Points, buy and send you Nintendo Points, buy you something online, etc. If you wanted to take Viz instead of the cash, than you could take 300,000 Viz instead of the $200, 75,000 Viz instead of the $50, and 30,000 Viz instead of the $20.

Additional Earnings:
You'll earn 1 Viz for each play your game gets and 0.1 CP for each 10 plays your game gets. So if your game gets 15,000 views (which is about the average amount of views hacked GBA Pokemon games have right now), you'd earn 15,000 Viz and 150 CP. On top of that, you'd earn tons of CP and Viz each time the game receives a good rating. All of these earnings are automated and will be in effect forever, even after this competition is over (if your game has more than 1 developer, earnings will be evenly split among all developers).

Submission Deadline:
October 16th, 2013.

Payout Date:
December 16th, 2013 is when we'll figure out who won and who deserves how much money.

Rules and Info:
-The game must be made for vizzed.com and must be made available only on vizzed
-Vizzed.com must be placed on the title screen somewhere (since vizzed will basically be the "publisher" of your game)
-The hack can be about anything, there aren't really any guidelines to follow
-You may work with a team but you'll than have to split the earnings
-Games must be finished to qualify
-Limit of 3 games per a user (that doesn't include games you work on with others)
-Limit of 5 developers per a game
-Only games created after 7/13/2013 count
-You can hack any of the Pokemon games for Game Boy Advance, which includes Pokemon Fire Red, Pokemon Leaf Green, Pokemon Ruby, Pokemon Sapphire and Pokemon Emerald
-You may submit your game as a demo/beta to the site to be tested but demos/betas will not qualify for the earnings and we'll only accept them if they're at least 25% complete
-Anyone caught cheating in any way will be disqualified and possibly even banned for life
-You'll be given admin powers for your game pages so that you can add, edit and remove content and graphics
-You may promote your own game by submitting screenshots to it, editing the game page, creating various threads for it (as long as they're not spam), recording videos for it & uploading them to the vizzed youtube account, creating a custom boxart graphic, responding to comments or threads regarding your game, telling your friends about it, advertising it on the internet, etc

Tips:
-The more time you put into your rom hack, the more likely it is to earn you money. If you put less than 50 hours into the hack, there's a good chance that you wont earn money from it but your still free to submit it and earn Viz & CP from it.
-Change as many things with your hack as you can. Changing the graphics, music, title screen and/or towns can definitely increase your chances
-Giving it a vizzed theme in some way could increase your chances of winning since the people playing and rating your game will be members of vizzed. Things such as giving users of the site cameos in the game, creating towns based on vizzed, etc.
-Giving it a Christmas or Winter theme could potentially help since the voting will take place around that time. Of course this strategy wouldn't work if to many users tried doing this.
-Play as many GBA Pokemon rom hacks as you can in the Retro Game Room to get ideas and inspiration for your hack.

This competition has the highest payout of any competition vizzed has ever had! I figured there are lots of users who have plenty of free time and would love to put that time to use by making hacks based on their favorite games and than to be able to share them with their friends and earn money in the process.

Latest Firefox causes RGR Plugin to not work = Here's how to fix it

The latest version of Firefox causes the RGR Plugin to not work. There's 2 solutions to this problem:
1. Use a different internet browser such as Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, Safari, etc
or
2. Downgrade Firefox to version 21

Here's how to downgrade firefox and to make prevent it from updating again:
1. Download and install firefox version 21 here:
https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/21.0/win32/en-US/Firefox%20Setup%2021.0.exe
(if you need version 21 in a different language, go here)

2. Open up firefox and go to your options window (click the 'Firefox' button at the top right to find the options window), than go to the Advanced tab and than click the Update tab. From here, choose to either check for updates but not install, or never check for updates. This will make it so that firefox wont update itself which would cause the plugin to stop working again.

That's it, simple as that. Once a new version of firefox comes out that doesn't cause RGR Plugin issues, or once we find a better solution and maybe a fix to the problem, I'll make a separate announcement. Thanks to Shadow53 for finding this solution.

Latest Firefox causes RGR Plugin to not work

Firefox usually updates itself automatically so this is probably unavoidable but the latest update of Firefox causes the RGR Plugin not to work. The only way to avoid it automatically updating is to keep your firefox open, don't close it or restart your computer, otherwise it'll automatically update.

If it does get updated, you'll have to use a different internet browser for the time being until we can figure out a solution to this problem. I'd recommend using Google Chrome for the time being, or Internet Explorer.

Part of my goal is to obtain real physical copies of as many games in the Retro Game Room as I can. Since I failed at getting anyone to donate games to the site with my recent offer (except for Kryptic, thanks), I figured this way might be a better way. So here's how it'll work.

-Sell to me a retro game that I don't already own and I'll pay you 50% of what it's worth in real money and 50% of what it's worth in Viz
-Sell to me a modern game and I'll pay you 33-50% of what it's worth in real money and 50-67% of what it's worth in Viz
-Sell to me a retro game that I do already own and I'll pay you 25-33% of what it's worth in real money and 67-75% of what it's worth in Viz

(1000 Viz = US $1)

The real money can be paid in many different ways. I can send you the money to your paypal account, I can buy you an amazon gift card, I can send you Microsoft points, I can buy you something online somewhere, etc. You will receive your rewards after I receive the games in the mail (and yes, you are responsible for paying for the shipping). Game Accelerator = Faster Game Downloads

I've added a new item to the item shop called 'Game Accelerator' (as seen here) which makes the RGR game downloads up to 10 times faster. I did a test on a 13 MB file, without the item the game downloaded in 65 seconds but with the item, the game downloaded in 5 seconds. Staff members don't need the item for faster downloads.

So how does this work? Basically if you own the 'Game Accelerator' item, or are a staff member, your game downloads download from a separate dedicated server than the downloads that regular users have access to. So the site now has 2 servers dedicated to hosting the files.

This does increase monthly costs by nearly $200 but I had to do something because the regular file server gets a lot of downloads and big games can take a very long time to download so for users who play a lot of big games, this is a great solution. This could also pull a little strain off of the regular file server too which could potentially speed up the downloads on that a little. I'm also hoping this encourages users to donate in order to get the 'Game Accelerator' item since it's a very handy item to own.

For now, the Game Accelerator item will cost 10,000 Viz but that price will slowly go up as more and more users get the item so be sure to get it now at the best price, otherwise you could pay 2-5 times more in the future.

Summer 2013 Netplay Tournament: Teams = Sign Up for a shot at 100,000 Viz

This is an "Official" Vizzed tournament. As some of you know, I plan to hold 4 a year.

This competition will involve 2 player teams facing off against other 2 player teams.

This tournament will last for 12 weeks. The first 3 games will determine who advances into the regular games (I use this to weed out those who don't participate). The next 5 games are regular games and will be used to determine who goes to the elimination rounds. The last 4 games are the elimination rounds and the last round of course is the final game.

You must enter as a team, so find someone who is willing to be your team mate and let me know what your team name is. Your team may also contain a 3rd user, a user who will basically be one of your backups in case one of you can't participate in a matchup in any given week. The 3rd backup player isn't required but is suggested if you can find someone willing to take on that role.

The games that this tournament will involve:
-Bomberman '94 (TG)
-Moto Roader (TG)
-Super Spike V'Ball (NES)
-Tiny Toon Adventures - Wacky Sports Challenge (SNES)
-Peace Keepers (SNES)

Requirements:
-You must live in the United States (unless you have had very little lag problems playing netplay with USA users)
-The RGR Plugin must work fine on your computer, especially for Nintendo, Super Nintendo and Turbo Grafx games (in fact, if SNES netplay doesn't work for you, you will have a disadvantage)

In this competition, you have to try and correctly name as many games as you can. Whoever names the most games correct once the competition ends, which will be June 24th 2013, will win US $100. If more than 1 user tie, the earnings will be split among those users (unless there happens to be tie between more than 10 users, than only the first 10 users will split the earnings). The $100 can be paid by paypal or I can buy something online for you such as Microsoft Points, Amazon Gift Card, etc.

Both youtube channels have exceeded the first milestone so I've added Intellivision games to the site as promised:

We're a little less than half way to the 2nd milestone, so keep up the contribution everyone

You'll also be awarded 2,000 Viz, just for subscribing to both youtube channels. There's never been any easier way to earn Viz, ever.

If my Youtube Channel and the Vizzed Youtube Channel both meet any of the following milestones, I'll add the following systems to Vizzed:

~~If we can get 1,000 Subscribers to both channels,~~ accomplished
-I'll add Intellivision to vizzed

If we can get 2,500 Subscribers to both channels,
-I'll add Neo Geo, ZX Spectrum and everything above to vizzed.

If we can get 5,000 Subscribers to both channels,
-I'll add MS-DOS, Turbo Grafx CD and everything above to vizzed.

If we can get 10,000 Subscribers to both channels,
-I'll add another CD system, everything above and offer free netplay on all the RGR games for all users from June 1st - September 1st.
